🤲 Much like the movement we represent, Plunkett cannot do it all alone. 💪 In fact, there is demonstrable benefit when we are working with others - such as BCT, Future Economy Alliance and We're Right Here - to call for change, or seeking to influence the direction of future policy direction which impacts our sector. 💻 Read Chris Cowcher's blog about the ways we collaborate with others and the other ways we represent our members and champion the work they do. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eydC_Rpk #policychange #advocacy #charityadvocacy #collaboration Chris Johnes

One interesting angle on advocacy are the efforts some people devote to prodding certain key players to get more involved. In sectors like philanthropy, there can be a reluctance because it seems too political. As founder of the Center for Community Foundation Policy Leadership, longtime criminal justice reform advocate Stephen Saloom has been focused on encouraging and supporting community foundations to advocate on their issues. As Stephen shared on the podcast, the strongest case for doing so traces back to these organizations' stated missions. Community foundations' missions typically commit them to the well-being of the local populace in the broadest terms—as broadly as any governmental body or public official. So it's only logical, Stephen argues, that community foundations should get engaged in questions of policy that affect the local community. https://lnkd.in/gbzzT-Ba

En comunidad | In service to Berkeley and the Bay Area, trabajándole duro to uproot systems that create poverty and harm
This ones for my service provider fam - I got my start in the nonprofit sector working in direct service organizations, working with youth, immigrants, and people experiencing homelessness. It was those pivotal years that I learned two things: 1. We will not service our way out of institutional and systemic issues which require our services models to exist in the first place. 2. Our staff and the people we serve are the most knowledgeable about the flaws of our systems and are uniquely equipped to reimagine a better future for our communities. Unfortunately, direct service orgs are often seen as "charities" and "do-gooders" who should steer clear of advocating, building community power, and making an impact on transforming the systems that harm their communities. The amazing panelists we have lined up are all service leaders who see their role as providers that provide security and stability while also engaging in social change work. Something that we believe at BMP, all service organizations have the potential to do! Join us and the over 400 organizations who signed up for our conversation tomorrow to learn about how each service leader navigates their own unique challenges and opportunities while engaging in social change work, and what was it that made them step into this role. Common Cause Foundation are looking for up to 5 new non-executive directors to join our Board and help shape our work to rebalance cultural values. Could it be you or someone you know? 💡 Do you share our belief that any proportionate and lasting response to the polycrisis will require a fundamental re-examination of the values that are prioritised in mainstream culture? 💡 Do you bring skills in strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, non-hierarchical structures or experience working for systemic environmental or social change outside of the NGO sector? 💡 What we do needs to be shaped by who we want to serve - and that's all of us. As such we are particularly keen to recruit new board members with marginalised identities who have been denied access to power and influence or tokenised, including, but not limited to Black, Brown and Majority World peoples, disabled people, those from the LGBTQI+ community, people from working class backgrounds and people who identify as women - or people with a particular commitment to challenge human exceptionalism. 💡 You don’t need to have experience of being a trustee to apply, you also don’t need to have years of experience in the workplace or formal qualifications. 💡 Positions on the board are voluntary, but we will meet expenses, including caring responsibilities.
