There were two big career losses I thought I’d never recover from… 1️⃣ Being made redundant in 2005, the first 4 weeks post 🪓 was very lonely. At times it felt like people wouldn’t talk to me in case they caught a case of the redundancies 🦠 [I landed a role at Cisco in Nov 2005, and relaunched my career on a different pathway, which at the time I was ignorant to what was possible] 2️⃣ Not being taken seriously when putting 🖐️ up for leadership position inside Cisco. I have spoken about my own accountability on what I should have done differently. I was left feeling lost, that I’ll never be considered for leadership position (not just at Cisco, but anywhere) [I chose to leave Cisco and pursue new opportunities at Palo Alto Networks in the Cortex business. I approached it differently, my first 2 years was about not making same mistakes at Cisco. I was taken seriously for leadership positions, and eventually landed in the one I do now] - - - - I really feel for the people out there going through alot of doubt over their positions, or people that have been impacted. It’s distressing and painful. There will be times it feels you can’t come back from it. I am not going to say “don’t stress”. It is okay to feel it, if you don’t feel it and process it, you won’t learn from it and move forward with your next step. “Talk is a substitute for Action” - Peter Thiel - Leverage your network - Talk about it, you are not alone #growthmindset #career #personaldevelopment

On a mission to help 100,000 Corporate GenXers escape the 9-5 I Founder of the Escapee Collective I Host of the Corporate Escapee Podcast I CEO of the Collective Academy
A friendly reminder to Corporate GenXers: Don't get too comfortable Even when company performance looks strong, no one is safe. Just look at what’s happening at Cisco In 2024 alone, Cisco has laid off nearly 10,000 employees, including another 5,600 announced this week This comes despite a record-breaking $54 billion in revenue—the second-best year in the company’s history! Why? Because companies are highly prioritizing Profits over People (we should make that a #) Cisco’s reason? They’re betting big on AI and subscriptions. Yet, the people who helped drive that growth are paying the price This isn’t just a Cisco story. It’s happening across the board—Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and more Over 140,000 tech employees have been laid off this year alone. If you think you’re safe because your company’s financials are strong, think again Now is the time to develop a Plan B- Hope for the best but Plan for the worst Whether it’s consulting, fractional work, or building your own business, don’t wait until it’s too late Join The Escapee Collective (a Free Slack channel) to connect with others making the transition and start planning your next chapter before corporate quits on you Link: https://tr.ee/lCXJ-uGsiZ

Helping companies (and people) get the right skills in the right place at the right time Ted Lasso Award Winner | Dad Joke Connoisseur
Cisco laid off 4000 people, Intel Corporation cut 15,000 jobs. Beyond the immediate human impact, these decisions represent a staggering loss of value—one that will reverberate for months, if not years. Wall Street is putting pressure on both companies to be more efficient, this is their reaction. But you have to ask - is there not a better way? - Are their not metrics beyond purely financial that show the value of an employee, team or department - What if you could measure these? - If you do have to cut roles, how do you know which roles, which people - Conversely, who is CRITICAL to org that can NOT be lost Thankfully ... there is a better way to identify employee value. And to show the true impact people make within the organization. There is a better way to manage your business, and it's our mission to help people make better decisions. Interesting that I haven't heard any response from the State of Arizona regarding the three job applications that I sent them for open IT positions. My guess is that their website is just like USAjobs.gov in that they get hundreds, if not thousands, of applications for a single job opening. Everyone wants a government job, don't they? Going back to my online IT course at the Cisco Networking Academy... #cisco #cisconetworking #cisconetworkingacademy
