Funny thing life is. In my early 20s, all I wanted to do was get to the top. Be a VP or something higher. Having experienced being a director, I’ve learned so much about what makes me happy, which is getting dirty to solve my customer’s problems.
I realized working to win more work from my customers isn’t my jam. I missed being asked, “Hey, can we federate back to this system?” Or, “I hate this login user experience, how can we make this better but also secure?”
Taking a step back and being a person who can leverage their IAM knowledge and still be hands-on has been exactly what I was missing.
Fun example: The login experience with a MacBook using Jamf Connect and Okta. Our users are asked to input their password for file vault then the Okta login screen, where they choose their factor of choice, then their MFA factor (e.g., password + Okta verify push). Then to be presented with a prompt to populate their password again to sync their local password with their Mac’s...crappy user experience. I forgot to mention that we need to hide MFA factors that aren't relevant to our customers.
Tirelessly working with both the vendor's support teams and my Jamf engineer, we finally solved this issue today, and the sense of accomplishment was satisfying.
Which leads me back to what brings me joy, which is looking at my customer's IAM problems and working with a team to help solve them. What I am trying to say is, I don't have to get high in the food chain to get joy in my job and I'm very happy where I am...in the trenches solving my customer's IAM problems!

On the M&A front, Morgan Stanley Research (Hamza, Keith) shared a list of enterprise software companies that they believe fit the attributes most wanted by acquirers (less than $10B enterprise value, 70%+ gross margin, and 90%+ gross dollar retention).

As customers, we all seek excellent service experiences, yet we often encounter both exceptional and poor support. For service providers, prioritizing customer success is crucial for long-term growth. Customer success goes beyond resolving immediate issues; it’s about building lasting relationships, fostering loyalty, and creating opportunities for growth.
𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔
One of our long-term customers faced a critical situation with the renewal of their Microsoft licenses, which, if unresolved, could halt their operations for up to 12 hours.
As their #cybersecurity provider, we had recently taken on managing their #Microsoft licenses, but our internal policy required payment before provisioning and authorization on the Microsoft portal.
With less than 12 hours to resolve the issue, the Head of IT reached out for assistance. Recognizing the urgency, I bypassed normal procedures, secured internal approval with the issued Purchase Order (P.O.), and initiated the procurement process.
However, we hit a snag when the customer couldn’t authorize us on the Microsoft portal. Even though it was nearly midnight, I stayed on the line, coordinated with our engineer, and provided remote support to resolve the issue and the authorization was approved.
At midnight, the license expired and was automatically deactivated. Working through the night with the IT team, we resolved the issue by 2:30 a.m.
However, the license could only be provisioned in the morning. I arranged for a colleague to activate the license at 5:30 a.m., and by 6:00 a.m., the customer’s operations were fully restored, ensuring no disruption to their business.
The IT Head was pleased, and expressed deep appreciation for our support. This experience reinforced the importance of going above and beyond for our customers in times of critical need.
