Eyes on Capital - How Tax Equity Gets Done Pine Gate Renewables, Thursday, described how they structure tax equity investment in existing projects.  This example involves a Moonshot Solar, a 79mw project in Mississippi that has a long term PPA with Mississippi Power  and market based rate authorization to sell power ancillary services. Pine Gate’s Federal Power Act Section 203(a) authorization application, describes “a series of internal reorganizations” that will transfer ownership of Moonhsot in a single asset LLC and invite tax equity to invest in that discrete LLC. The naming convention, “PGR 2022 Lessor 5, LLC” and the fact that the tex investor is at this time TBD, suggests that Pine Belt uses conveyor belt approach to move assets around organization jenga-style and open them for tax equity one by one. The pitch: You can try to find this information yourself by painstakingly digging through the millions of regulatory documents at FERC, or you can simply program EnerKnol to automatically alert you whenever a new application is filed for asset transfer authorization under Section 203(a) of the Federal Power Act. The first of ENGIE’s virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) with WestRock Company has reached commercialization. Bernard Creek Solar LLC, a 230 megawatt (MW) project, is now live and operating in Wharton County southwest of #Houston. On track to produce approximately 500,000 MWh annually, the Bernard Creek project will also generate over $45 million in revenue for the county and create more than 250 #jobs during construction. And when it comes to contributing clean grid-scale energy, our #VPPA with WestRock for Bernard Creek will add 282 megawatts of #renewableenergy to the Texas energy grid when combined with a similar project located in Bell County. ENGIE’s projects are focused on meeting the specific needs of our clients as we work together to accelerate the #energytransition in North America, and this agreement reflects that. Chicago-based renewable power provider Hecate Energy LLC has selected Reston, Virginia, construction giant Bechtel Corporation to build Sunfish Solar 2, the first project in Hecate’s 1-gigawatt development in Calhoun County, Michigan, according to a Sept. 11 news release from the firm. 💡 Consumers Energy, a residential power company working with Hecate on the project, estimates the total installed capital cost of the Sunfish Solar 2 is $453 million, per a document filed with the state of Michigan. The project will be built on 1,300 acres, according to the release. Have you heard about today's #renewableenergy news in the Sun Belt? We have commenced operations at our two large solar farms in southeast #Texas! 🇺🇸 With a total of over 2.2 million ground-mounted photovoltaic panels, Danish Fields and Cottonwood also feature battery storage systems supplied by Saft, our battery subsidiary. Both projects are part of a portfolio of renewable assets totaling 4 gigawatts in operation or under construction in Texas. Most of the solar capacity of both sites has been contracted through long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreements. The other part will support the decarbonization of #TotalEnergies’ industrial plants such as Port Arthur and La Porte in Texas, and Carville in Louisiana.
