AI is impossible to ignore. Investments in these ventures exceeded $40 billion in just the first half of 2023. AI companies seem to be popping up everywhere, with many grabbing attention after being accepted into prestigious accelerators like Y Combinator. But when you take a closer look at many of these startups, you notice an interesting pattern - most are relying on the same standardized AI technology from giants like OpenAI, Google, and Meta. So what separates the frontrunners pushing AI forward from the rest of the pack? As Milan Miric surfaces in his recent Harvard Business Review post, we should recognize it's not simply the technology itself that leads to success. The companies making the biggest splashes have crafted masterful strategies to harness AI's potential in creative ways. They've developed innovative business models that cleverly apply these standard building blocks. In an environment where everyone suddenly has access to similar AI toolkits, the strategy becomes the linchpin that sets the leaders apart. It's reminiscent of the early days of smartphone app development - while Apple provided the underlying technology and ecosystem, the developers who thrived were those who brought fresh ideas to life within those constraints. The same dynamics are at play here. And while these standardized tools may seem to level the playing field, they also lend immense bargaining power to the AI titans behind them, not unlike Apple's influence over its ecosystem. The challenge for startups lies in how creatively they navigate these dynamics. Over time, it's expected we'll see more homogenization in mainstream AI products, similar to the convergence that played out across big-name video games once standardized game engines became readily available. However, this very normalization also lowers barriers to entry for more niche AI applications, likely promoting more diversity across the wider landscape. Finally, anticipating the future, Milan expects to see increasing fluidity in job mobility for AI talent as these standardized tools become the status quo. The ability to effectively leverage models will soon supersede the need to build systems from the ground up. In closing, as technology and business consultants, it's time we shift our focus beyond the technology alone. True competitive advantage will stem from strategic excellence in this increasingly standardized AI arena. The frontrunners will be those cleverly sculpting superior customer experiences through strong brand identities and creativity beyond the core product itself. For it's not merely what you build, but how strategically it's brought to life that will matter most. However, we don't think it's as strong as it could be... 👀 Aimed we believe at SMEs and startups, #GoogleVids seeks to assist users with generative creation of content. Whilst not live yet, Google 's launch video doesn't seem show Google Vids offering much more intricacy than other platforms out there already such as Canva 🤔 Is there a wider play here for Google? 🤔 Will Google Vids be SME or Enterprise focused? 🤔 What are the use cases? I can see it being used for presentations and quick comms but not much more as it stands. 🤔 Will you be using it? #DailyInsights with Arabella Barnes ft PinPoint Media // NOVA+

The race is on to reimagine core internet services like search with generative AI. Will focused startups like Perplexity outmaneuver the tech giants through agility and dedicated products? Or will Google's scale and resources win out as they overhaul with AI? Perplexity looks set to be the next headline grabbing consumer AI product. ❓The biggest question I hear is, "When is the best time to use an AI research tool instead of ChatGPT/Claude/etc or Google?" Here are 5 reasons I find myself going straight to Perplexity: 📖 Sources - the topic will require some form of validation or deeper detail from experts ⏱️ Recency - current knowledge and information is important and likely missed by other AI chat trained in data up to a specific date 🎯 Specifics - my analysis requires referencing a specific set of sources and focusing on details compared to the generalized answer of AI chat or SEO optimized search results 🧭 Guidance - I need help starting broad and getting narrower where it will guide me in the next questions to go deeper 🔗 Related topics - identifying associations, which are most relevant, and presenting the right related information is critical to answer quality Perplexity delivers on this because it is built in RAG, retrieval augmented generation, which combines generalized LLM capabilities with search on unstructured data grouped into related concepts. Have you tried Perplexity? When do you find it being your go to AI tool? #ai #generativeai #research #aiproducts #rag

Amid the proliferation of AI startups, most new ventures are building on standardized technology from a few giants like #OpenAI, #Google, and #Meta. This commoditization means competitive advantage will depend more on business models and strategy than proprietary tech. We can expect more homogenous mainstream #AI products as builders rely on the same large language models. Standardization also enables higher labor mobility as skills become more transferable across companies. For #startups building with #generativeAI, the implications are clear - you need to think hard about differentiation beyond basic functionality. Building a strong brand and focusing on the full customer experience can pay dividends. At the same time, be prepared for higher employee turnover and dependence on platform owners. The name of the game is standing out from the crowd when the tech toolbox looks the same. #LLM #machinelearning
