What does your donation to Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) support? We use donations from the optometry community to provide grants to partner organizations for projects that address preventable blindness and vision impairment around the world. We fund projects that provide free- and low-cost vision exams and eyeglasses to meet the immediate need in areas where there is little to no access to eyecare. But we are also investing in long-term solutions by helping establish optometry schools in these areas, so that there are more optometrists available in underserved areas of the world. During the last year alone, OGS has funded 21 vision projects with 19 implementation partners. We’ve awarded over $930,000 in grants, and impacted more than 1.5 million individuals globally. Supporting Horatio's Garden to create Sheffield's award-winning rehabilitation centre 🍃 Since July 2022, Gleeds has partnered with Horatio's Garden, a spinal rehabilitation charity, and is currently providing project and programme management services to their latest location based in Sheffield.    Working in partnership with the NHS and other key stakeholders, Gleeds is expertly navigating the challenges of delivering the project on a live hospital site. Horatio's Garden provides a picturesque setting for patients with spinal cord injuries who want to reconnect with nature. In 2023, it made its award-winning debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and was crowned as Best in Show. Gleeds was initially brought on board to provide cost and project management for their Belfast location, which officially opened in June this year. The QEH King’s Lynn Charity has launched an exciting new appeal — EPIC Moves, Better Lives — aiming to raise £20,000 to bring transformative reconditioning and exercise therapy directly to hospital patients. Working in partnership with EPIC Norfolk, a social enterprise dedicated to improving lives through physical activity, the appeal will support frail and cognitively impaired patients by funding specialised mood-boosting exercise sessions designed to help people stay active, build strength, and maintain independence. Suzanne Dennis Optometrist, with three Hakim Group independent practices across Lancashire, hosted workshops raising awareness about brain haemorrhages and the importance of monitoring blood pressure. 🩺✨ The initiative raised an amazing £1,300 for the Natalie Kate Moss Trust (NKMT), with £50 donated for every pair of spectacles sold over £399. A raffle with prizes such as Tom Ford sunglasses and perfume added to the excitement, thanks to the luxury brand's generosity. Free blood pressure monitoring was also offered across all three practices, encouraging patients to prioritise their health. For all voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations operating across South East Wales. One hundred hours of volunteer days will be available from Acorn staff, sub-contractors and its supply chain to successful applicants, as well as small grants of up to £1000, with 20 being awarded over the next two years. Thrive Communities Resource Bank will also be available to charitable organisations, with unused or excess materials from the construction phase of the Nantgarw (Cardiff) cancer centre project. https://lnkd.in/eBRwhaAB
