ICArEHB associated student, Grace Ellis, recently co-edited a book, "Infrastructure in Archaeological Discourse", that explores the important interface between archaeology and infrastructure studies. The compiled chapters provide archaeological case studies from a variety of different social, temporal, and geographic contexts that critically examine what infrastructure is, how it can materialize, and how it impacts and reflects human behavior, social organization, and identities in the past, as well as the present. “Archaeology is unique,” says Grace, “because it offers a global, long-term, material perspective of infrastructure that highlights the various ways it can emerge and influence society.” More info: https://lnkd.in/d2H72pRt

Three different takes in each column on the concept of 'Aviation archaeology'. The 'Wrecovery' version has, I hope been replaced by aviation heritage investigation using the core archaeological principles, as seen in the centre title, due to be joined by a sequel, soon. Can you add to these?

This unique window into the past showcases remnants from various civilizations, including the Scythian, Slavic, Greek, and Byzantine eras. Archaeologists and historians are now in a race against time to document and preserve these artifacts before they are lost or damaged. However, the area faces significant threats from erosion, crime, and environmental pollution, making preservation efforts increasingly challenging. 🏛️ Archaeology isn't just about digging up relics; it's about piecing together the puzzle of our past, uncovering civilizations, and preserving cultural heritage. However, behind every excavation site and preservation effort lies a crucial factor: funding. I remember when I was interviewing Dr. Victor Sava, I asked questions about the fortification, and too often, his answer was, "We don't know yet; we don't have enough funding to find that out." One of my favorite aspects of the "Santana Cetatea Veche" documentary still remains the part about the reality of conducting an archaeological excavation. #Archaeology #documentary
