'Seabed Mapping' is sub-set of hydrography discipline.
🇬🇧 It’s great to see more collaboration in pursuit of seabed mapping. The Geospatial Commission recently joined the UK Centre for Seabed Mapping which has over 30 members, including the likes of the Royal Navy, Welsh Government, The Scottish Government, and The Crown Estate. Together, this growing community will greatly enhance the quality, coverage and accessibility of seabed mapping data. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eXMCmaCP #Collaboration #OceanMapping #HydroSpatial

This is great news! St. Louis has a strong geospatial community that provides support from the new to the experienced geospatial professional. Compared to other places I lived, I've never experienced anything like it! St. Louis also provides many geospatial workforce opportunities that attracts a range of individuals from the recent high school graduate to someone interested in making a career transition. The National Geospatial Innovation Hub Advancement Act will further accelerate St. Louis being a national hub for geospatial technology.

ESTCP is thrilled to have sponsored Department of Navy’s capacity to execute over $20 million in contracts for innovative projects that will increase mission resilience and mitigate impacts of climate change. These projects, funded by the Navy and Marine Corps, include a range of nature-based solution prototype projects with focused investments in areas such as shoreline and infrastructure resilience, embankment stabilization, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) monitoring, and the creation of a climate adaptation planning framework for Navy Region Southwest: https://bit.ly/3NcMcjN As part of the Innovation Landscapes Network, ESTCP is partnering with the Department of Navy – which manages nearly 3 million acres of arid and semi-arid landscapes – to accelerate the transfer of science and technology solutions that address severe flooding events and improve watershed resilience. With an expedited acquisition process, we're meeting today's installation manager needs on responsive timelines. Led by DoD and USGS, the Innovation Landscapes Network facilitates partnerships between researchers, installation managers, and federal agency landowners to develop and transfer adaptive tools across ecological landscapes in the Eastern U.S., Southwestern U.S., and Alaska. This article nicely summarizes the struggles that the space industry has been facing, especially regarding supply chain issues and end-customer demands. It provides an insightful overview, pointing out many surface-level challenges and serving as an excellent resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the sector. I've primarily focused on transitioning from "a few large, complex satellites" to "larger quantities of smaller, cheaper spacecraft." Of course, this transition for companies hasn’t been easy; it has exposed some systemic weaknesses within the industry. The traditional companies, steeped in older methodologies, often struggle more with this transition compared to newer companies that were designed to operate under these evolving paradigms. Yet, both face significant hurdles. The industry’s pursuit of contracts that emphasize "speed and technical maturity" are at odds with the “new space” mentality of producing more affordable spacecraft. Achieving technical maturity is not easy when a critical benchmark is successful spaceflight. That doesn’t happen without significant investment, and you don’t move fast without making mistakes. So then, how do you make cheaper spacecraft? These dynamics suggest that finding ways to efficiently produce cost-effective spacecraft without compromising on speed or technical prowess remains the 'holy grail' of our industry. The journey toward this goal continues to be as challenging as it is fascinating, and I am personally thrilled to be a part of this wild ride!

Good news for #SmallBiz! AFWERX pre-released its latest Small Business Innovation Research (#SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (#STTR) Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) Topics (24.3C). SDA’s goal is to advance affordable, resilient, and interoperable technologies within the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (#PWSA) to support joint warfighting operations and enable all-domain command and control on a global scale. Toward that end, small companies are asked to provide novel and innovative technology that enables leap-ahead improvements for future tranches of currently planned PWSA capability layers or enable new capabilities to address other emerging or evolving warfighter needs. In addition, SDA is releasing a special topic, STTR Phase I - SF24C-T003 - Strengthening Space: Uniting Research and Innovation for PWSA (Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture), which will allow companies to apply for a larger Phase I STTR of $305K followed by a larger Phase II effort of $3M. SDA plans to select five companies for Phase I followed by a down-select of three companies for Phase II. For more information on the special topic and instructions, click the link below: https://lnkd.in/eAjyXfKf Important Dates: Sept. 18 - Pre-Release for Q&A Closes Sept. 18 - BAA Opens for Proposals Oct. 16 - BAA Closes at 12:00 p.m. ET #SemperCitius #SmallBusiness #Industry #Defense

AtkinsRéalis with Geospatial Commission are finalists in the ‘Performance and Improvement in the Public Sector’ category of the MCA Awards this year. The firm, funded by the Geospatial Commission, has developed the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR), a cloud-based platform that identifies underground assets in seconds, replacing a process that used to take six days. This innovation significantly reduces the risks and costs associated with asset strikes, transforming the UK's approach to managing underground infrastructure.
