Among their recommendations is a need to "reallocate road space to provide better access for more sustainable modes of transport, such as walking, cycling or taking a bus". Road space reallocation requires accurate multimodal data to understand how, where, and when people are using the space. #NEWS €87 billion are at stake to prioritise reliable, affordable and sustainable transport. The European Cyclists' Federation now calls on Member States to include cycling in their national Social Climate Plans as a powerful solution to combat transport poverty. The EU Social Climate Fund (SCF) aims to increase the accessibility and affordability of zero- and low-emission transport and building alternatives, addressing energy and transport poverty among lower-income groups and micro enterprises. Cycling and active mobility —including bike-sharing services and cycling infrastructure—offer the quickest, most reliable, and cost-effective way to tackle transport poverty, making it a key element of the SCF. While Member States hold the power to shape their Social Climate Plans, active mobility needs strong advocacy now.
