National Interim and Permanent Public Sector Procurement and NHS Business Director at Michael Page, the home of Procurement Recruitment.
A recent conversation with a high level Public Sector Procurement Professional has got me thinking. They successfully recruited over a dozen procurement professionals in a geography where historically it has been a real struggle to find the right talent. I asked them what they changed to make their recruitments a success. They said that changing their perspective to looking for customer service skills as the hard skills and expecting to need to train/upskill the procurement processes was the game changer for them. They believe that with their team as partners to the whole organisation, it was these related skills that took precedence in their search. Their preparation to develop, mentor and in some cases educate the processes and governance has led to their success in hiring, retention, stakeholder satisfaction, efficiencies and savings. Do you think we should be refocusing what we are looking for when writing the skills required for procurement job descriptions? Share your thoughts and let's discuss. #procurementrecruitment #procurementcareers #procurementleaders

What do I love most about Procurement Recruitment? There's something uniquely satisfying about the world of Procurement Recruitment. It's the thrill of the match and the perfect alignment of talent with opportunity. Here's what I love most about this dynamic field: Firstly, it's the people. In procurement, you meet professionals from diverse backgrounds, each with their own unique skills and experiences. It's a privilege to learn about their career journeys and aspirations. The stories I've heard and the connections I've made are truly the lifeblood of my work. Secondly, the impact of a great hire in procurement is palpable. It's not just filling a role; it's about finding someone who can strategically manage resources, drive cost savings, and contribute to sustainable practices. When you place the right person, you witness the direct influence they have on a company's success and efficiency and it's been my privilege to place a number of candidates a few times in their careers. Lastly, the challenge is exhilarating. Procurement roles are evolving, and with that comes the need to find candidates who are not only skilled negotiators but also adept at data analysis, relationship management, and strategic thinking. Matching these multifaceted roles with the right candidates requires insight, intuition, and a deep understanding of the procurement landscape. #ProcurementRecruitment #TalentMatching #StrategicImpact #1stexecutive The essence of procurement recruitment lies in its power to transform businesses through people. It's a field where every successful placement can lead to innovation, growth, and a stronger bottom line. That's what I love most about this profession as it's where human potential meets business performance. Do get in touch if you are hiring or looking for a new position and I look forward to working together to generate a positive solution.
