No doubt about it...The Recruitment sector is difficult right now. 😞 -The ONS have published that vacancies have declined for an unprecedented 26th period in a row 😲 -Reed have reported that vacancies have dropped 28% whilst applications rose 25% 😞 -Hays announced a 90% drop in profits 📉 In such challenging times one thing remains constant, the need to maintain effective collaborative relationships. 🤝 Without effective communication and collaboration between recruitment consultants and hiring managers/talent acquisition the recruitment process is not streamlined. Goals and objectives are not aligned and time is wasted on the wrong candidates ultimately damaging the relationship further. "Stop approaching my staff" 😡 "You're not going to steal my staff, stop messaging them" 🙄 "Why are you headhunting from my team?" 😒 Luckily, none of the above have been messages I have received. But I know plenty of people in recruitment who have had at least one or a variation of one of the above. Unfortunately, your staff will get approached for other opportunities from time to time - they might even apply to them directly off their own back via a job advert. As a Manager, my focus here would not be on the fact a recruiter is reaching out to members in my team (although, that is usually a compliment!), but rather why they are leaving or considering other opportunities to begin with. There are a couple of companies who I know have a really good data function and I do not work with them. Guess what? That absolutely means I will actively headhunt from their teams because If I don't work with you, then I have no reason to not approach your employees. I'd probably be THE best agency recruitment partner to some of these companies too, because I know exactly where they are going wrong when it comes to talent attrition. Unfortunately though, they all already have a list of preferred recruitment suppliers and are not looking to review this. If you are struggling with retaining your staff or attracting the right talent into the business, then I'd be happy to offer my insight into how you can kickstart hiring in Q2, while also retaining your best staff in the process.
