I've seen a number of posts lately about "dry promoting" It's where you take a promotion but don't get a raise until the next financial year or ever. This isn't a new phenomena, but one that has been brought to the top as companies are experiencing layoffs. To candidates, I would strongly advise against doing this. You are taking on more responsibility for less pay than the previous person, ultimately adding more stress to your already hectic life. To companies, this is a practice that tarnishes your brand and lowers employee morale. In a time where layoffs are abundant, you want to be know as the company that is growing and taking your employees into account. Quick Question (and I know the answer to this): Why do companies that engage in layoffs do not make it a priority to re-hire their former employees who were laid off once they start hiring again? Wouldn't it be a faster process to onboard people who were already part of the company to begin with? Considering the high number of layoffs, a lot of these people are still looking for jobs and still available.
