AJ started her career with Schneider as a Freight Broker in 2018, and grew into a Team lead, followed by a promotion into a Broker Operations Manager role in 2021. Her true passion is being a leader. Here is what AJ had to share about Green Bay’s broker team, and her leadership journey: “The Freight Ninjas (Brokers) here at Schneider are receptive, engaged and highly motivated. Being a leader in Operations is refreshing, gratifying and dynamic. We are nothing without our people and I love being a part of that development. A valuable lesson learned from leadership: Forget about trying to become a person of success and instead become a person of value. STM is unlike any other environment I’ve been a part of, there is collaboration, comradery and the true definition of our core values: Safety, Integrity, Respect and Excellence. “ Thanks for all that you do, AJ!

Driving through Dublin traffic after work, we almost gave up on this meeting. Arriving on location, we found a memorable talk and am grateful we didn't give up. Most people talk, but today Vincent Ogutu was inspirational. Effortlessly articulating what captures the essence of a meaningful work culture. Asked for my take home, I couldn't help but summarize that in every workplace you will get people with these perspectives: 1. Job Oriented people (mostly after the money) - These people are motivated by money. They will deliver the best results when they appreciate what you pay them. A pay rise would easily motivate them. 2. Career Oriented people (mostly after the status, rising higher and higher) - These people are motivated by career growth. A promotion or a status change would greatly motivate them. 3. Calling Oriented people (finding fulfilment in the work itself, changing the world and making a difference). -These people are motivated by the impact they make on people around them. They may even take a lower pay or position but would be motivated by the passion to serve. In every workplace, appreciating how your employees are orientated will help to greatly motivate them. Most workplace challenges arise from stereotypes and assumptions of what would generally motivate people. A good leader will get the best out of his people by appreciating their orientation and meeting their needs. Every day is a day to learn something and grow. I learnt something today and hope to help others in the workplace to develop a meaningful work culture. Thanks Daphin Juma

For an incoming Chief People Officer/VP People, values alignment with the leadership is one of the most vital ingredients for success. Asking these questions, shared by Jeanne, is an excellent way to get in to specifics and help form a proper assessment of the ethos of the company.

I'm looking forward to our next Safety Leadership Training event with Norman Ritchie. We cover HOP and human performance, the basics of behavior-based safety, and incorporating those into risk assessments and investigations. We also look at criteria for better and more resource-efficient incident investigations and how to score your corrective actions to ensure they are solving the problems they are meant to address. By attending this class you will take away concepts and techniques that you can immediately apply to improving safety (and any other aspect) performance. #safetyleadership #performanceimprovement #hop #incidentinvestigation
We have another Safety Leadership Workshop scheduled for May 21 and 22 in Houston, Texas, led by Norman Ritchie and Tom Knode. Book your seat before it sells out! https://lnkd.in/g72HscPw

This is so true. As a leader you can inspire, or discourage. To inspire and motivate others, good leaders focus on doing six key things. They provide direction even in conditions of fast change and ambiguity; they focus on employee engagement and well-being; they actively support employees; they emphasize Voice; they inspire trust; and they are active learners.

Being in a position of leadership is truly a privilege, and it does come with a responsibility to lead by example. Those who take the privilege, and the responsibility, seriously deserve, and have earned, our respect.

In leadership, it's about embracing the responsibility of caring for those entrusted to your guidance. Your role as a leader extends beyond control to nurturing and supporting those under your charge, which results in fostering a culture of genuine care and commitment.
