Black Friday is a completely bizarre concept to me. On the one hand, it's an opportunity for products that are over hyped and way over priced to become affordable for the many.. especially in the sporting industry. But this then highlights the insane mark up and profits these companies are making generally if they are able to offer these ridiculous discounts. I'm an ambassador for a brand who have asked ambassadors to promote Black Friday sales and I just can't buy into it. However, the initiative here from Finisterre is something I could really buy into. There has to be a way to strip back the b****cks and offer sustainable and meaningful actions to days such as Black Friday, or Cyber Monday or whatever other marketing ploy there is. We're way past fast fashion, crazy discounts, marketing ploys that don't add benefit to any of us, we need to be better, chapeau Finisterre.
For four years, we've resisted the Black Friday markdown frenzy, choosing instead to focus on creating a positive impact for our oceans and communities. 🌊 Thanks to your support, we’ve donated over £35,000 to initiatives like adapting wetsuits, teaching children to swim, and making the ocean accessible to historically excluded groups. This year, we're proud to partner with Surfers Against Sewage and The Surfrider Foundation, two organizations leading the charge in ocean conservation. 🌎 From Friday to midnight Tuesday, we’ll donate £2/$2.50 for every order placed to support their incredible work. Together, we can help protect our oceans for generations to come. #OceanConservation #BlueFriday #Finisterre

A litter charity is creating a national litter database to find out why some areas are worse than others. RECOUP, based in Peterborough, also hopes the database will help advise packaging companies on how to cut down waste. As manufacturers of a large range of outdoor bins, we the team at Amberol will be watching this initiative closely. The initiative is part of the charity's Litter Composition and Pathways Project. It hopes it can be spread nationwide to allow litter picking groups to input data from a variety of locations to make the database as comprehensive and inclusive as possible. #Litter #LitterPicking #Packaging https://lnkd.in/eDguTynh

The Wirral Barn Owl Trust, founded in 1999, works to protect the declining barn owl population on the Wirral peninsula. After rising to 42 pairs by 2012, numbers have fallen again to 13 pairs, threatened by habitat loss and severe weather. Relying solely on donations, the Trust’s conservation efforts include installing nest boxes, monitoring owl activity, collaborating with farmers, and educating the public to secure a sustainable future for these iconic birds. In the latest round of Grants for Good, Wirral Barn Owl Trust has been granted £3,500 from John Good Group | Growing Businesses Together to help the charity with their current goal of replacing 25 damaged nest boxes with weather-resistant, eco-friendly boxes. Developed in conjunction with urban entomologist Matt Frye, PhD, the Frye Inspection Tool is an essential aid to pest control professionals and building managers to allow quick and accurate identification of rodent entry points. Each year, Xcluder makes a donation to the Pest Management Foundation in Dr. Frye's name from sales of the F.I.T. We are thrilled to share that this year we are donating more than $6,200 to this important organization, helping to further the industry through applied research.

Last but definitely not least in our Colorado Gives Day spotlight: Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) ⛰️ If you love Colorado’s great outdoors, you’re going to love what Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) is all about. For nearly 40 years, VOC has been mobilizing thousands of volunteers to tackle projects that protect, restore and care for our state’s stunning natural spaces. From building trails to restoring wildlife habitats, they’re the boots-on-the-ground heroes keeping Colorado beautiful. But it’s more than just outdoor work — it’s about building a community that values stewardship and sustainability. VOC connects people to the land in meaningful ways, creating a ripple effect of care that benefits all of us (and future generations). We’re so proud to support VOC this Colorado Gives Day because protecting Colorado’s natural beauty is something we can all get behind. Ready to lend a hand? Every donation made now through December 10th counts toward the $1 million+ Incentive Fund. I am really excited about Severn River Association's #oysterrestoration program this summer! It's kicking off next month in three big ways: 1) We are putting in 10 MILLION #oysters on our #restoration reef at Traces Hollow 2a with the help of our partners Oyster Recovery Partnership -- and with YOUR HELP (see the match grant alert below): https://lnkd.in/g9UgCMY7 2) Our #MarylandersGrowOysters program participants will be planting their home-grown oysters on a different area of Traces Hollow starting June 1. SRA has the largest MGO program with over 300 households growing oysters in cages off of docks/piers for nine months while the spat on shell grow big and strong enough for planting on a #reef. 3) With our boat Sea Girl finally repaired and back in the water, we will be fitting her with a newly designed instrument. Late this summer that instrument will pump oyster #larvae onto yet another #restorationreef for 'direct setting', a new technique that may be able to supplement (but not supplant) our other restoration techniques. This is thanks to a grant from Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Chesapeake Oyster Alliance. #ConnectProtectRestore #OysterRestoration #SevernRiver #EnvironmentalConservation #OysterReef #MarineConservation #SustainableFuture #EcoFriendly #CommunityImpact #MarylandersGrowOysters #ReefRestoration #SpatOnShell #OysterRecovery #HealthyEcosystems #SupportLocal #NonProfit #ChesapeakeBay #ChesapeakeOysters #OceanHealth #AquaticLife #ConservationEfforts #SeaGirl #InnovationInRestoration #OysterLarvae #RestorationTechniques
MATCH GRANT ALERT! SRA supporter Doug Legum, the founders of our oyster program-board member Ted Delaplaine and former board member Bob Whitcomb-along with board member Jeffrey Schomig are offering to match #GreenGive donations up to $22,000. Our goal this year is $47,000 which would fully fund our large-scale #oysterrestoration planting. We can’t meet this #matchchallenge without YOU! Please help us plant 10 Million spat-on-shell oysters on Traces Hollow 2a sanctuary reef this year to further our vision of a Thriving Severn River by 2050. Early giving is underway. You can be a donor to oyster restoration anytime now through June 5th. https://lnkd.in/gZgNV68E #oysters #restoration #severnrivermd #environmentalrestoration #river #estuary #support #waterquality #MATCHGRANTALERT #GreenGive #OysterRestoration #SaveTheBay #SevernRiver #EnvironmentalConservation #Fundraising #MatchChallenge #DonateNow #RestoreOurWaters #MarineConservation #CleanWater #SustainableFuture #EcoFriendly #SupportLocal #NonProfit #CommunityImpact #HealthyEcosystems #OysterReef #ThrivingSevern2050

MLK Act of SERvice: Help us raise money for our Community Garden at Rochester Prep! Share and donate at the link below! add the promo code LIFTOFF at checkout and your donations will be doubled up to $50 for the next 7 days! We honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by fighting for Environmental justice! All produce grown will be distributed to students and families to help close the gap of access to healthy and nutritious foods! WHY: "Around 9% of Monroe County residents are living with food insecurities and nearly every city neighborhood is a food desert...Food deserts mean that people don't have easy access to grocery stores and affordable nutritious foods." "In the 2021 Racial and Structural Equity Commission Report, affordability and lack of access to fresh produce was deemed a factor of health disparities with Black and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in Rochester and Monroe County. The report also mentions that residents living with obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure frequently reference food access and cost as major challenges." https://lnkd.in/gitdu5Sk
