The future for manual work is exciting. I see many use cases for an active exoskeleton within the offshore wind industry. From production to installation.
Today Navity visited the NORTEC Hamburg together with its close partner SIB-Engineering GmbH to explore if the field of manufacturing and production has useful equipment which could also be helpful during offshore operations. An active pneumatic exoskeleton caught our attention as it supports overhead work positions like welding on large structures, greasing of skid rails and surfaces or bolt handling inside turbines. We are always excited to look outside of our offshore bubble to explore solutions which can improve the work, safety or efficiency during the construction of offshore wind farms.

"Most people in Vårgrønn come from the oil industry, and have taken the step to join this new adventure," says our Leading Electrical Systems Engineer Charlotte Elmelid in a new article on Norway's energy transition. A study by SpareBank 1 SR-Bank of 600 companies in Norway finds that the share of companies working in oil has fallen to 22% in 2020-2023, from 32% in 2014-2019. Do you have a ticket for our upcoming Christmas Party at Radisson Blu Royal Garden Hotel on Monday, November 25th? Visit the following link to purchase your tickets: https://lnkd.in/djseFXTk The first speaker of the evening will be Dmitri Gorski from "Heavelock Solutions" and "Nicoustic", who will be giving a talk titled "Non-intrusive acoustic level measurement in separator vessels - first offshore pilot". Dmitri Gorski holds a PhD in process engineering and an MBA in technology management. He has spent around 15 years working with brownfield and greenfield projects for Statoil/Equinor as well as with technology development and commercialization for small companies and start-ups. Today, he holds CEO positions in Heavelock Solutions and Nicoustic. The latter is a spin-off from Equinor and Fraunhofer IKTS set to develop non-intrusive level measurement in process tanks. Abstract of the presentation: Accurate measurement of liquids and solids level in process vessels such as oil and gas separators is important for safety, production optimization as well as for minimizing CO2 emissions and dosage of chemical additives. Non-intrusive measurement of level offers opportunities to significantly decrease installation and maintenance costs as well as to increase personnel safety and instrument reliability. Non-intrusive level measurement is a good fit for Greenfield projects, and it is great in Brownfield context. Mature fields often have increasing challenges with solids and emulsions, something they are seldom equipped to measure. Retrofitting intrusive level measurement equipment on a producing asset is prohibitively expensive; production needs to be stopped for at least a week and the project becomes part of turnaround scope. Technologies widely used for level measurement in process equipment today are intrusive. Behind Nicoustic is many years of advanced research in Guided Ultrasonic Waves at Fraunhofer IKTS (Dresden) combined with determination of Equinor to improve level measurement on its assets. The first field trial of Nicoustic non-intrusive level sensors has started on Snorre A in April this year. In parallel with that, a Joint Industry Project (JIP) aimed at further advancing this technology has been initialized with broad support from 6 Norwegian and International operator companies. This presentation will describe the development effort behind the technology, the first results of its piloting and the implications it has for cost and emission reductions on existing and future assets.

* MAJOR MILESTONE REACHED AT LIMBERG III PUMPED STORAGE PROJECT * Significant progress has been made at the Limberg III pumped storage power plant in Kaprun, Austria, with the successful installation of a 355-tonne rotor – one of the heaviest and most complex components in the project. The rotor, part of machine 1, was carefully lifted and placed into the stator with millimeter-level precision, thanks to the use of a specially aligned ceiling crane. The entire process, which took three hours, left only a 4-5 millimeter gap between the components. Manufactured directly in a 17-meter-high cavern, the rotor took nearly a year to complete, highlighting the precision and complexity involved in its production. This operation was the most challenging lift of the entire project, requiring seamless coordination between the crane driver and instructor, whose expertise ensured the successful lift. Once completed, the Limberg III facility will play a crucial role in supporting the energy transition by providing flexible, high-performance balancing energy to the grid. The power plant’s design allows it to adapt rapidly to fluctuations in energy demand, a key feature for future energy infrastructure. Project Management | Human Resources | A strategist | Result Oriented | Entrepreneurial and a transformer
At Epiroc we dare to think new and this has proven on how we drive the productivity and sustainability transformation in our industry.
”The trolley solution will help us replace diesel with electric power. And in the end, it will reduce our CO2 emissions, but also help us to reduce the cost per tonne” – Patrik Westerlund, Senior Development Engineer at Boliden. In partnership with Boliden and ABB Process Automation, we have successfully deployed the first fully battery-electric trolley truck system in the Boliden Kristineberg mine in northern Sweden. Currently running on an 800 meter underground test track with a 13% incline, the trolley system provides a solution to the challenges of heavy and steep electric haulage – and pushes the mining industry closer to the all-electric mine of the future, with sustainable, productive operations and improved working conditions. In this video, you’ll meet some of the great minds behind the trolley truck system - and see it in action!

Strategic impact assessment for offshore wind on the NCS.
DNV is proud to have been selected to conduct a strategic impact assessment of 20 new areas for offshore wind development. As part of the process to identify potential development areas suitable for 30 GW offshore wind in Norway, DNV has been selected by Norwegian authorities (NVE) to carry out a strategic impact assessment for 20 specific locations. While DNV’s assessment will be conducted in 2024, the 30 GW offshore wind project is set out to be completed by 2040 and will play a key role in contributing to the development of Norwegian offshore wind as well as the energy transition. DNV’s assessment will shed light on important vectors regarding the pollution potential of offshore wind development (including value and supply chain), emissions to air and seas, as well as potential differences in various geographical locations, including waste generation and the overall sustainability and circularity potential of offshore wind development. A team from DNV’s Environmental Risk section, led by Eirik Færøy Sæbø, will conduct the assessment, drawing on 30+ years of experience with impact assessments in the Norwegian offshore environment. The team is proud to support Norwegian authorities on this important project and look forward to contributing to the further development of offshore wind.
