A Review on Biochar and Its Application in Agriculture https://lnkd.in/d8Y6g9QZ A carbon-based substance called biochar is produced by burning organic materials at temperatures below 700 °C. When pyrolysis is used to produce bioenergy, biochar is created as a byproduct. Due to its potential agronomic benefits, there is a lot of interest in using this biochar as a soil amendment and a means of trapping carbon in soils to reduce pollution from carbon dioxide (CO2). This method of producing biochar is sometimes compared to the process of making coal, which is one of the oldest industrial inventions in human history. For a very long time, char has been used for industrial and agricultural purposes. Whereas charcoal is primarily composed of solid wood, biochar is composed of tiny particles. Post-harvest wastes, sawdust, cutgrass, and other organic wastes are the main sources of feedstock for biochar.

How does Sappi spell innovation in agriculture? 🤷 We spell it in six letters: L I G N I N Lignin isn’t just a by-product of the paper making process. Along with cellulose, it’s one of the major components of wood – and can be used as a sustainable, renewable alternative to fossil-based solutions in industry and agriculture. It can be used to replace synthetic polymers used in fertilizer, as well as in seed coating and dressing. 🌱 It can be used as a natural solution to reduce soil erosion. It can be used to help improve animal feed and promote good health and nutrition. It can be used to help fertilizers work better and more sustainably. And that’s just for starters. That’s why, at Sappi, ‘innovation’ often begins with an ‘L’. What other areas do you think businesses should invest in to innovate more sustainably? #sappi #Lignin #Innovation

The reflective surface of these films bounces sunlight back onto the plants, increasing the light they receive, which is particularly beneficial in greenhouses and fields where uniform light distribution is critical. According to our latest study, the global agriculture metalized film market was valued at USD million in 2023, with a forecast to reach a readjusted size of USD million by 2030 at a CAGR of % during the review period. This report provides a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the global agriculture metalized film market, offering both quantitative and qualitative insights by manufacturers, regions, types, and applications. As the market continually evolves, the report examines the competitive landscape, supply-demand trends, and key factors shaping market demand across various regions. Profiles of selected competitors, along with product examples and market share estimates for 2024, are included to provide a thorough understanding of the industry's future outlook. 🚨Have FORGED iNNOVATION developed a world first? 🚨 A machine attachment specifically designed to process and condition #biochar Biochar has significant potentially, however numerous barriers are slowing its adoption. We are on a mission to bring biochar production to the masses; with a critical first step in the journey being to enable its utilization and application. This means enabling the use of existing application equipment, facilitating easy and effective usage. Biochar is a fantastic additive to either slurry or applied neat on the ground. However, its typical form does not easily facilitate this. FORGED iNNOVATION's GM-1510 attachment means lifting, granulating and loading can be done in a single step. Protecting pumps from damage, facilitating it's use and uniform application in standard fertilizer spreaders or direct granulation and application on the ground. These is also the option to mix and blend neat biochar with manure or other fractions in a simple, single step. Created a 'charged' biochar blend, while loading onto a truck or a bagging line. Our design can accommodate all fitments and we are developing a range of sizes to suit larger equipment and power options. The GM-1510 has also proven extremely effective at uniformly breaking up and spreading various bedding material such and straw, wood shaving and has even been used to condition chemical fertilizer. Ensuring it is perfectly free flowing/uniform to maximise its performance, while avoiding overapplication and burning/scorching of the ground. The initial response to the GM-1510 has been fantastic, our first orders are already in production. A first-of-its-kind biorefinery built at Imavere, Estonia, under the CBE JU-funded SWEETWOODS project turns hardwood residues from wood processing and forestry into lignin and cellulosic sugars for use in bio-based products. SWEETWOODS uses Sunburst technology to extract lignin and sugars, a highly efficient fractionation technology that can convert over 90% of the woody biomass into high-value materials. After wood chips are fed into the machine, Sunburst technology turns them into a slurry in just 20 seconds by applying mechanical force, pressure, and heat. Sugars and lignin in the slurry are then separated using enzymes to obtain materials with a high level of purity. Sunburst technology also makes it possible to produce new materials with a small ecological footprint, using minimal amounts of water and chemicals. A system has been set up at the plant to allow most of the process water to be treated and reused, integrating a circular production approach.
