Happy #InternationalDragDay! Drag is a form of art and expression with roots dating back millennia. It is a source of joy and liberation for many LGBTQ+ people and is especially significant for Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Asian queer and trans communities. Multiple states have tried to restrict or ban drag performances in the last two years, but their efforts have been resoundingly blocked by federal courts across the country. Join the workshop “Don’t Drag Us Down: The Fight Against Drag Bans Across the Country” at the Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair. This workshop explores the recent rise of drag bans; how these laws seek to undermine free expression and diminish the rights of transgender, non-binary, Two Spirit, and gender diverse people; and how drag artists, advocates, and litigators have successfully blocked these laws in Tennessee, Florida, Montana, Texas, and other states. Gender identity should be a non-issue in the workplace, yet more work still needs to be done. Boston Consulting Group published an article in 2023 revealing as many as two-thirds of LGBTQ+ employees encountered workplace obstacles relating to their gender identity. The paper also pointed to a gap in recognising LGBTQ+ obstacles, with cis-straight employees less likely to acknowledge them compared to other diversity issues. Take a look at what inclusive employers are doing to cultivate allyship in safe work environments when you visit Inclusive Careers Fair 2024. Recruiting individuals from the LGBTQ+ community can pose challenges compared to other minority groups due to the less visible nature of sexual orientation and gender identity. It is crucial for companies to create an environment where LGBTQ+ individuals feel valued and supported. This can be achieved by implementing inclusive policies that explicitly prohibit discrimination and promote inclusivity for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, some educational institutions host career fairs specifically tailored for LGBTQ+ individuals, providing companies with the opportunity to connect with potential candidates who align with their values. Employers can also utilize Boolean search strings that incorporate LGBTQ+ community terms to identify potential candidates when seeking talent. #pridemonth #diverserecruitment #LGBTQ+recruitment

Hi all! My professor is conducting a study that focuses on the experiences of queer college students from rural areas. For this study, he is seeking to interview college students who identify as LGBTQ+ and grew up in rural communities. Rather than focus solely on challenges, this interview is an opportunity to discuss how your background has played a role in your college success. The interview will take about 90 minutes via Zoom and each participant will be compensated for their time. If you or someone you know is interested in participating, please email Dr. Carl Sorgen at csorgen@georgiasouthern.edu with the subject line "Interview." 🙂

➡️One of the top questions I get from coaching clients is: How do I position myself for senior roles and c-suite jobs? The strongest candidates are already thinking about the world from the perspective employer’s point of view. What are the organization’s ambitions? What problems do they want to solve? The application and interview process is your opportunity to show how you think about these kinds of problems and how your skills and experience could help. In my 1:1 coaching practice, I help BIPOC and LGBTQ+ leaders who want senior-level jobs. Go here to book a sales call with me https://bit.ly/4a77ut5
