The Evolution of Coal Processing Once upon a time, coal processing was as simple as a shovel and a lot of sweat. Today, it's a high-tech game with cutting-edge machinery. Modern coal processing techniques like dense medium separation, froth flotation, and drying have revolutionised the industry. These methods not only improve efficiency but also enhance the quality of the final product. The introduction of automation and real-time monitoring systems ensures that every chunk of coal is processed to perfection. Think of it as the ultimate coal spa day – getting cleaned, sorted, and prepped to be the powerhouse it’s meant to be. Who knew separating coal could be so high-tech? Next time you flip a switch, remember there's some serious science behind that power. #Gravitas #Vanadiumgroup #CoalTech #Innovation #ModernMining #HighTechCoal

This is an excellent resource produced by our member company Chevron, looking at hard-to-abate industries such as steelmaking, cement making and chemical manufacturing - and how decarbonisation of them can be supported by carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). These industries are essential to daily life but the processes they use can't be changed without significant technical breakthroughs. Development of at-scale CCUS and carbon capture and storage (CCS) will be critical to supporting emissions reductions in Asia over the next few decades because of the globally significant industrial hubs that are located around the region. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management has released a Request for Information (RFI): Industrial Deployment and Demonstration Opportunities for Carbon Capture Technologies, that closes on April 1, 2024. They are seeking input from key domestic and international partners on what is needed to accelerate deployment of #carboncapture in the US. The RFI is focused on 11 industries: #petrochemical, #ammonia, #aluminum, #iron-#steel, #refining, #sodaash, #lime, #pulpandpaper, #cement, #glass, and #LNG. These hard to abate industries have a #CO2 emissions equivalent of 479 million tonnes/year in the United States and 9,487 million tonnes per year globally. Recent data from Wood Mackenzie has visualised the growing demand for battery raw materials, in both base case and accelerated scenarios. The accelerated energy transition scenario models demand if efforts to limit a global temperature to 1.5°C are achieved. The data shows that demand for #nickel and #cobalt will rise well into the middle of the century, demonstrating the need for projects like the Piauí Nickel Project to supply these #criticalminerals essential to the #greentransition.

“Thermoplastic composite pipe suitable for high-pressure hydrogen service, Strohm says” February 21, 2024, - Nadja Skopljak “#Thermoplasticcompositepipes (#TCP) have shown exceptionally low #hydrogenpermeation values , demonstrating technical suitability for #highpressurehydrogen service, Dutch TCP producer Strohm reported following a TCP hydrogen testing program.” “Strohm recently completed an extensive six-month hydrogen testing program on its TCP at Tüv-Süd in Germany, which saw the comprehensive #permeationassessment cover a range of pressures and temperatures, using a full-scale TCP equipped with two end-fittings.” “According to the Dutch company, the testing demonstrated “highly promising results” and both the TCP itself and the end-fittings exhibited exceptionally low hydrogen permeation values, underscoring the technical suitability of the product for #highpressurehydrogenservice .” “The study further shed light on the remarkable barrier properties of the TCP’s reinforcement layer, Strohm said, explaining that when compared to traditional unreinforced pipes, the TCP demonstrated a significant reduction in hydrogen permeation, approximately tenfold, thanks to this innovative design feature.” “Strohm believes that the results demonstrate its TCP technology feasibility as a robust and reliable solution for #offshorehydrogeninfrastructure , offering #corrosionresistance , superior #fatiguelife , and a reduced #environmentalfootprint .” “”As the world transitions toward #sustainableenergysources , TCP’s performance in #hydrogentransport positions it as a key player in the #energytransition journey ,” said Bart Steuten, Product Development Manager, Energy in Transition, Strohm.” “”Not only does it ensure extremely low levels of permeation, especially when compared to conventional #pipes , but it is also spoolable and simple to install, meaning it slashes the #carbonintensity of projects. We would like to thank Tüv-Süd for their cooperation in this study, the results of which clearly demonstrate the benefits of TCP for use in hydrogen projects.”” “In terms of other news coming from Strohm worth mentioning, at the end of 2023, the company received DNV qualification for its #deepwater TCP flowline, claiming to be the first player to receive accreditation of this kind from the verification body.” “Strohm was also present at the Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) held in November 2023, where Steuten gave a presentation about the production of hydrogen offshore, what we can expect in the future, the good sides of laying pipes instead of cables, as well as using pipes as storage.” “https://lnkd.in/dST4XH5c?
