Humphrey Law Australian made "natural" socks are knitted with raw undyed yarn. No dyes or chemicals are used in the finishing process meaning there are significant advantages to the environment: 1. Pollution caused in the manufacture and application of dye is avoided. 2. Natural socks use about 1/4 the amount of water compared to a black sock in the manufacturing process. 3.Less energy is used in the manufacture of natural socks. Plus solar panels on the roof of the Humphrey Law factory generate half of their electricity. Wool Season Update! As October wraps up, we can see trends in Merino greasy wool is slightly finer and weaker, the length and vegetable matter remain consistent with previous seasons. We've also noted a slight decrease in yields. South Island Crossbred colors are looking whiter and brighter! While we've noticed a slight decrease in yield, the vegetable matter and micron levels remain consistent with previous seasons. North Island Crossbred wool shows a slight increase in whiteness, with brightness on par with last season. Micron levels are lower, but vegetable matter and yield stay consistent. Just got back from a little beach vacation with my whole family. Our plastic-free, merino wool fleece hoodies were perfect for when the sun went down - breathable, cozy and thermodynamic - with the added bonus of not shedding microplastic fibers into the ocean.   Did you know that textiles are the largest known source of marine microplastic pollution (https://lnkd.in/g7XN4VvD.)? Washing synthetic garments releases microfibers and the waste water from our washing machines makes its way into the ocean where it causes a host of problems. One example being that it ends up accumulating in the fish we eat and thus accumulating in us!   The other benefit of merino wool is that it is naturally anti-microbial and requires little washing. 🐑 Understanding Why Wool Shrinks and How to Prevent It 🐑 Did you know? Wool shrinkage is all about the fibres reacting to changes in temperature and movement. This happens because wool’s natural fibres can tighten up when agitated during washing and drying. Preventing Shrinkage: Keep your wool items looking as good as new with these tips: 🚿 Hand Washing: Always use cool water and make sure to rinse with water at the same temperature to avoid shocking the fibres, which can lead to shrinkage. 🫧 Machine Washing: Before choosing to machine wash, consider your machine’s history with delicate items. Remember, no two wool cycles are alike and machines vary significantly in how gently they treat wool. ❌ Avoid the dryer: Lay flat to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Unsure?
