September is Attendance Awareness Month! Although attendance is everyone's business everyday, September is the month we get to really celebrate just being present! We can't talk graduation without attendance, we can't advocate for high-dosage tutoring if students don't show up, we can't change challenging behaviors if students aren't present to see good behaviors modeled. What will you do to encourage school attendance with your platform? Ideas: Systems and schools - can promote an attendance awareness campaign. Elected officials - can sign proclamations declaring September as Attendance Awareness Month AND participate in attendance campaigns with their constituents. Business owners - can donate incentives and time to support attendance initiatives as well as post support of regular school attendance in their establishments. Community-based volunteer organizations - can volunteer to be attendance mentors. Encourage students and families with canvas walks, community events, and assisting schools with welcome back phone calls (let's be real, a personal welcome back is much more effective than a blanket robo call). I'll share more ideas as we get closer to September and also during the Louisiana Attendance Alliance CWA monthly call in August. #BeMindfulBePresent #ChronicAbsence > #Truancy #Attendance #Engagement #Partnership

As the new school year begins, it’s a prime opportunity for churches to connect with families and the broader community. Here are a few strategies to consider: 1. Host a Back-to-School Event: Organize a fun and welcoming event to bring families together. Consider offering free school supplies or a community barbecue. 2. Volunteer at Local Schools: Encourage your congregation to volunteer in classrooms, after-school programs, or sports events. 3. Offer Tutoring and Mentorship Programs: Provide academic support and mentorship for students who need extra help. 4. Community Partnerships: Partner with local businesses and organizations to create programs that benefit the community. For instance, run a school supply campaign and help students who may need resources. Or host study nights at a local coffee shop. Pastors, how is your church planning to engage with the community this school year? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below! #CommunityEngagement #ChurchOutreach #BackToSchool

#FeatureFriday Like so many urban areas across the country, initiatives abound, yet there are significant challenges of alignment, impact, integration, and sustainability. The variety of programming necessary to keep students engaged has not been as robust as needed, especially at schools where the academic achievement on standardized assessments is so low. Conspicuously absent from school programming are on-site primary health and mental health services, parent engagement, and access to social services. Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and its community partners contacted TCG to apply for a federal grant to implement the Full-Service Community Schools project with three schools near the Eastside neighborhood in Indianapolis. The proposed project would provide a comprehensive, high-quality school-community partnership with various services promoting parent involvement, academic achievement, health, and wellness. https://hubs.ly/Q02gbhRs0

In the background, Adeel Imtiaz sir highlights the importance of the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy graph, which illustrates how learning occurs in our brain. His YouTube channel is renowned for empowering the education system with science-based techniques. I previously mentioned this graph briefly, but it’s worth delving deeper into its significance. The Revised Bloom's Taxonomy emphasizes a hierarchy of cognitive skills that are essential for effective learning and critical thinking. This model moves beyond mere memorization, encouraging learners to engage in higher-order thinking skills such as analyzing, evaluating, and creating. By comparing and contrasting information, our brains are better able to retain and comprehend complex concepts. Unfortunately, Pakistan's education system predominantly focuses on the first three levels of thinking—remembering, understanding, and applying. While these foundational skills are important, there is a crucial need to also nurture higher-order thinking skills to truly enhance students' intellectual growth and critical thinking abilities. Integrating the principles of the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy can transform our approach to education. By fostering an environment where students are encouraged to analyze, evaluate, and create, we can significantly improve their retention and deepen their understanding of the subject matter. This shift not only equips students with the ability to think critically but also prepares them for the complexities of real-world problem-solving.

🌟 Proud Moment Alhamdolillah 🌟 Yesterday, I had the honor of presenting our school's uplift program to the community. As a former student, I feel incredibly lucky to be involved in giving back to the institution that shaped me. It's a full-circle moment to contribute to the betterment of my own school, ensuring it continues to thrive and inspire future generations.

🌟 Exciting News! Ryse's School Selection Info Sessions Running October 21st to 31st 🌟 As many of you know, I’m in the process of building Ryse, a social venture that helps families make informed and confident choices about their children’s education. Today, I’m thrilled to announce the launch of our School Selection Info Sessions pilot, running from **October 21st to 31st** for Charlotte-area families. 💡 Why Ryse? When my family was choosing among our 45 public school options (!), I saw first-hand how overwhelming it can be. Without quality information, families are often left to use assumptions, opinions, or school rating systems that have been shown to be highly misleading. The result—families too often regret their choice, they miss out on great options, and our schools become more segregated and inequitable. That’s why I’m starting Ryse—to provide families with evidence-based insights and transparent school data so they can make choices that align with their values and priorities while contributing to a strong education system for all. 🗣️ Share with Charlotte-Area Families Who May Benefit 🗣️ If you know families or groups—such as neighborhood organizations, parent groups, or religious communities—who might want to save time and bring clarity to the confusing process, please share this with them! We support families from all backgrounds—those who have been meticulously reviewing data on all their options and those who may sign up for their zoned school without considering alternatives. ✅ 1.5 hour virtual sessions at parent-friendly times ✅ Sliding scale pricing ✅ Free sessions in partnership with nonprofits—reach out if interested! ✅ Private sessions for groups (your bookclub? Church small group?) Learn more on our website! Thank you for your support! 🙏 www.rysekids.com
