"Fixer" and Technical Sales at Polysource

"Is this material very tough? How does it compare to Nylon?" Did you know "Toughness" is actually a technical term of a material property? Tensile testing as one of the main ways to quantify a material's mechanical performance... Modulus, Tensile Strength, and Elongation at break are very common numbers to extract and compare. In order to determine a material's toughness, the area under the curve shown in read is calculated (throwback to integrations in calculus class!). This is determining the total amount of ENERGY that the material can absorb before fracture. As always, these numbers are not always directly comparable based on specimen prep, strain rate (plastics are Non-Newtonian!), fiber orientation, moisture conditioning, and many other factors beneath the surface of datasheet properties. Once all of that is controlled you can directly compare material toughness apples to apples and find out which is best for your application! Reach out to the PolySource team if you'd like us to help fix your tough problems! #plastics #materialscience #injectionmolding #toughness

This is great and an easier way to understand a complicated topic for many folks in plastics. Thanks for sharing!
