"What's a slip agent and what does it do?" That's not a question I hear every day!.. Here's some quick nuggets for considering in friction or wear components: -Slip agents are usually a version of a long chain amides. Their different loading quantities and chemistries depend on the base polymer and loading quantities -There are two main types of slip agents: Migratory and also non-migratory. 1. Migratory slip agents have the additive attempt to end up on the surface of the part and add lubrication to the show surface. Migration can take over a week after molding to create a surface layer [see graphic below] 2. Non-migratory (for wear applications especially) are much higher molecular weight and These additives can have some positive impacts on your final parts including Lower coefficient of friction, better wear performance, and higher gloss surface appearance! Let the #Fixers know if you'd like to explore slip, lubrication, and any challenges that you're working on PolySource #plastics #injectionmolding #friction #wear #materialscience
