POLYTECH Health & Aesthetics’ Post

Capsular contracture, the leading cause of revision surgeries, has been extensively studied in humans for the first time through a unique prospective randomized clinical analysis of five implant surfaces. The study highlights that capsular contracture occurrence hinges more on the histological characteristics of the fibrous capsule –influenced by the implant surface type – rather than capsule thickness. Notably, implants like Microthane® and MESMO® are shown to encourage the development of a more dynamic and less fibrotic capsule, reducing the risk of capsular contracture compared to traditional smooth and macrotextured surfaces.
