Celebrating a Milestone: Concluding the IMDAP Project! Last Wednesday marked a significant milestone as we wrapped up our IMDAP project with a final discussion alongside Ruud van Raak (Kansen voor West), Prof. Jacob Hoogenboom (Delft University of Technology). Arent Kievits (Researcher / PhD-candidate) and our colleagues Gerard Rauwerda and Theo Tieman. Our collaborative effort, featuring Delmic, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Delft University of Technology and Technolution Advance, has yielded the revolutionary FAST-EM multi-beam electron microscope. This innovation enables lightning-fast nanometer-resolution scanning of biological tissue, setting new standards in research capabilities. Yet, with this innovation comes the challenge of managing immense data. Enter the Imaging Data Platform (IMDAP), a collaborative initiative between Technolution, the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG, Prof. Ben Giepmans), and Delft University of Technology. This platform not only handles the vast data streams generated by FAST-EM but also pioneers advanced data management and processing techniques, propelling scientific research forward. Our gratitude extends to all partners and co-financers, particularly Kansen voor West. The Danube Private University Austria (DPU) and the University of Sydney, Australia have recently signed a research collaboration agreement underscoring willingness for a long-term partnership between the two institutions. The University of Sydney has invited the DPU to engage in a research collaboration on the topic "Enhancing and Advancing CBCT Imaging". Ass. Prof. Dr. Sepideh Hatamikia will lead this collaboration. The aim of the collaboration is to further develop CBCT imaging, with a particular focus on the development and evaluation of appropriate image quality metrics for CBCT imaging. This new co-operation showcases the ongoing growth of the DPU’s international scientific research network and its commitment to improving patient diagnostics and healthcare. ⚜️ ISBS World Congress started today with a very nice breakfast to get all the energy to listen to the morning conferences. The 1st session around the #Mechanical #Methods and #Modelling begun with the keynote of Pr Bernard Querleux reviewing the complexity of skin biomechanics and the mixed impacts of pollution diversity and environmental factors. It was a great review highlighting the needs of the mutiscale evaluation combined with measurement devices and clinical evaluation. Mechanical properties quantification can use various devices, the interpretation of the results must always consider the thickness of the studied zone. Indeed the Young modulus value can completely change for example considering sagging claim. Moreover considering the ethnic variability on skin mechanical, the study of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian and Afro-american subjects confirm that the Afro-american subjects are less impact by this ageing phenomena while Caucasian subjects are the most impacted. Finally, I will say that it is important to take into account the multiscale and layer model that represents the skin using both quantification through Indentometer, cutometer or Dermatoquemeter... and visualization such as Ultrasound (25 MHerz) and also clinical evaluation. Mechanical skin properties is a tricky topic that needs careful evaluation and gather so many claims: dumpling, firming, anti-sagging, restructuring, tonic... Thank you for sharing this review 😊
