Skills that I’ve Learned from Conducting Interviews that are irreplaceable by AI! Conducting interviews has been one of the most unexpected yet rewarding experiences in my career. The skills I’ve developed through these interviews have been incredibly valuable and are transferable to many future roles that I might take up! Here’s what I’ve learned: 1. Active Listening – Interviews push you to really listen to what others are saying—not just to the words, but to the meaning behind them. This skill has helped me better understand the needs and perspectives of the people I work with, which is essential for any role that requires collaboration or problem-solving. 2. Empathy – Getting to know someone’s story or pain point helps you develop a deeper understanding of their experience. Whether it’s a colleague, client, or stakeholder, empathy is crucial for building strong relationships and creating solutions that truly resonate with people. 3. Clear Communication – Communicating complex ideas in a simple, understandable way is key in any profession. Through these interviews, I’ve honed my ability to ask the right questions and present information clearly, which has been useful in everything from team meetings to client conversations. 4. Data Collection & Synthesis – Conducting interviews means collecting a lot of diverse information. I’ve learned how to quickly sort through this data and extract meaningful insights, a skill that’s helpful whether you’re analyzing market trends, user feedback, or internal feedback at work. 5. Problem Solving – Not every interview goes as planned. You learn to think on your feet, adapt to unexpected situations, and find ways to keep the conversation productive. This ability to pivot quickly is something I rely on in any role, especially when facing challenges or ambiguity. 6. Resilience & Adaptability – Interviews can be unpredictable, and you have to push through rejection or tough conversations. This resilience has been valuable in any career context, where things don’t always go as expected and staying adaptable is key to moving forward. Building My Network! One of the most unexpected benefits of conducting interviews has been the opportunity to expand my network. Every interview is a chance to meet new people, exchange ideas, and form connections that can lead to future opportunities or collaborations. No matter where my career path takes me, the ability to build genuine connections and maintain strong professional relationships is something I’ve taken with me from these experiences. What is a BATNA in simple terms? BATNA is an acronym that stands for Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement. It is defined as the most advantageous alternative that a negotiating party can take if negotiations fail and an agreement cannot be made. In other words, a party's BATNA is what a party's alternative is if negotiations are unsuccessful.
