This changes the advertising landscape in two primary ways. Here's how: 1. Instagram and YouTube Shorts will become WAY more important. People are addicted to doomscrolling and won't give that up just because their app of choice is gone. Both platforms already have a substantial reserve of content to start with, and creators will prioritize these existing platforms when reshaping their marketing strategies. We already know a great deal about their algorithms. Jason Suwaidan, for instance, knows YouTube like the back of his hand; brands will need more content creators like him if they want to keep growing. 2. Copycats apps will appear. Tech startups everywhere are likely viewing the TikTok ban as an opportunity to snatch the crown. Apps that closely resemble TikTok will start rolling out, and one of them is bound to break through. It's hard to predict which app will see long-term success and which will fade away like MySpace, but the brands that make the right choice early on will gain a significant head start. I'm personally excited about this. The last time we had a shakeup this big was when TikTok first broke onto the scene, causing monumental changes to how we consume content. I'm curious to see what changes this ban will bring. Where do you think social media is trending? Let me know!
