This National Asbestos Awareness Week (25 November to 1 December), we're reminding workers and the community of the risks associated with ageing and deteriorating asbestos - raising awareness and equipping civil construction professionals with the skills they need to stay safe. It's essential for professionals and tradespersons working around asbestos to have the knowledge, skills and training to know how to safely handle this deadly material. Understanding the risks and following the correct safety procedures can save lives.
Did you know? 1 in 3 Australian homes still contain asbestos, and those materials are ageing. This poses a growing risk, especially in the civil construction industry. ⚠️ Asbestos can release deadly fibers when disturbed, endangering your health and the safety of those around you. Protect yourself and others by staying informed and trained. Need more training? Join us tomorrow for CPCCDE3014 - Remove Non-Friable Asbestos or look out for upcoming asbestos training courses: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gGQgC6Au Civil Contractors Federation (Victoria Branch) RTO ID: 3704 #AsbestosAwareness #Safety #CCFVictoria #CivilConstruction #CivilTrainVictoria

CURT has been monitoring safety performance since 2004 through the Safety Benchmarking Portal (SBP), housed within the Construction Labor Market Analyzer application. This platform offers members insights into their safety performance compared to others in the industry. The goal is to drive incidents, injuries, and fatalities to zero by providing a shared perspective on safety improvement. The SBP aggregates and anonymizes owner and contractor safety data for benchmarking and improvement. Participation before June 30th is encouraged to contribute to this crucial initiative. #CURT #ConstructionSafety #Construction #Safety https://ow.ly/EX1L50S2ypi

Happy Thursday of Construction Safety Week! As we gear up for the weekend, let's finish the week strong with a focus on fire safety during construction and demolition operations. Did you know that Chapter 33 of the IFC provides a comprehensive framework for fire safety, emphasizing the importance of owner responsibility and the implementation of a robust site safety plan? Some key areas covered include installation and maintenance of fire protection systems, adequate access for firefighters, reliable water supply for fire suppression, clear means of egress, safe handling and storage of hazardous materials, and regulation of temporary heating and other ignition sources. An effective fire watch is also highlighted as an integral part of these safety measures. Additionally, Chapter 33 aligns with the International Building Code, ensuring standardized practices across the board. For project owners and managers, developing and maintaining an approved site safety plan is mandatory. This plan must address all construction phases and include contact details of the site safety director, training documentation for safety personnel, emergency procedures, and fire department access, as well as storage and usage guidelines for hazardous materials. Let's prioritize fire safety to protect lives and properties on construction sites. #ConstructionSafetyWeek #FireSafety #SiteSafetyPlan #Chapter33 #IFC

Always do a proper Risk Assessment prior to commencing the work to be done...
A well-completed excavation checklist is crucial for safety and efficiency on a construction site. It serves as a comprehensive plan and risk assessment for the digging process. Here's why it's essential: Safety: * Identification of underground utilities: Knowing the location of pipes, cables, and other underground infrastructure prevents damage and potential hazards. * Risk assessment: Evaluating factors like soil conditions, weather, and equipment helps identify potential dangers and implement appropriate safety measures. * Emergency preparedness: The checklist ensures that emergency contact information, first aid kits, and other safety equipment are readily available. Efficiency: * Planning and coordination: Outlining the excavation process, equipment, and personnel ensures smooth operations. * Resource allocation: Determining the necessary equipment, materials, and manpower prevents delays and cost overruns. * Compliance: Adhering to local regulations and permits is essential to avoid legal issues and project disruptions. Environmental Protection: * Soil management: The checklist outlines plans for soil disposal and potential contamination prevention. * Water runoff control: Measures to prevent erosion and water pollution are included. In summary, a completed excavation checklist is a proactive approach to managing risks, protecting workers, and ensuring the overall success of the project. By carefully considering these factors before digging, you can significantly enhance safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. Safety Update! From Seth Hall, CSP, CHST, Safety Manager for Danis & ABC FFC Safety Committee Member: Excavation activities are a critical component for many construction projects, involving the removal of soil and rock to install foundations, utilities, stormwater drainage systems, etc. While essential, these excavations pose significant risks to workers, including cave-ins, being struck by/caught between incidents, potential exposure to hazardous atmospheres, and more. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing number of significant injuries and fatalities related to excavations, this topic remains on the National Emphasis Program for OSHA. This white paper will provide an overview of best practices and excavation requirements. Please review the link below & pass along to your teams for best practices. https://lnkd.in/eJPnWA5n Does your company have best practices related to Excavation Safety? Comment below to share.
