This Ramadan I want to focus on being intentional about my actions, allowing purpose and fulfillment in my day-to-day life, and uplifting my spirituality. To all those fasting and not fasting, I hope you have a month filled with blessings, love and light ✨
Let us be mindful of people who may be fasting around us 💕 one of my fellow colleagues, Raeesa Mathews beautifully put some tips together on how to support your Muslim colleagues whilst they are fasting:
Educate Yourself: Take the initiative to learn about Ramadan and its significance in Islam. Understanding the cultural and religious context can help you better support your Muslim colleagues.
Be Understanding and Respectful: Recognize that fasting can be challenging, especially during work hours. Show empathy and understanding towards your Muslim colleagues who are fasting and be respectful of their religious practices.
Accommodate Breaks: Understand that fasting may affect energy levels and concentration. Allow flexibility for breaks during the workday for prayers or if they need a moment to rest.
Adjust Schedules if Needed: Have a conversation about work schedules with fasting colleagues and discuss possible adjustments. As an example, they may appreciate starting earlier and finishing earlier or having a more flexible work arrangement during Ramadan.
Provide a Quiet Space for Prayer: Offer a quiet and private space – physical or virtual – for Muslim colleagues to perform their prayers during the workday if they need it.
Avoid Offering Food or Drinks: Be mindful not to offer food or drinks to fasting colleagues during fasting hours. This includes refraining from scheduling meetings or events centred around meals during Ramadan.
Respect Cultural Sensitivities: Be mindful of cultural sensitivities surrounding fasting and Ramadan. Avoid making assumptions or asking intrusive questions about their fasting practices.
Offer Supportive Messages: Express your support and well-wishes to fasting colleagues during Ramadan. A simple message acknowledging their commitment to fasting and expressing support can go long way.
Be Flexible with Work Assignments: Fasting may affect productivity levels. Be open to discussing deadlines and work assignments that have flexibility to accommodate any potential challenges fasting colleagues may face.
Ramadan Mubarak to you all! 💖
Wishing our employees, clients, partners, and followers a blessed month ahead. Ramadan Kareem!
