Love it or Hate it? A version of the 'Choco Taco' from Salt & Straw is coming to Taco Bell this summer. 😎 🌮 My husband legitimately asked me if it was April Fools Day already when he read this in the news. I can't decide if I hate this or love it but what I do know is that I have a HUGE amount of respect for the strategy for both companies. Salt & Straw gets unprecedented national exposure and the chance to feed artisanal ice cream to the masses. Not to mention, some serious revenue growth. (But were they able to maintain some margin per unit or is it just scale 🤔... ) Taco Bell brings in a new clientele while meeting their current clientele on common ground. They'll also bring fresh innovation and renewed interest to their historically lack luster dessert menu offerings with a seriously enticing treat. What do you think? Love it or hate it? 🌮 Are Taco Bell hot sauces the new hot collabs? Taco Bell has released a new hot sauce in collaboration with musician Omar Apollo, whose mother created her own Disha Hot sauce recipe. Omar's parents emigrated from Mexico to the US, where they opened a Mexican restaurant that served their special house sauce. It's a great story that authentically links with Taco Bell. Not only has Taco Bell selected an exciting artist for a collaboration, but they are releasing a limited edition hot sauce-themed vinyl of Apollo's latest album "God Said No," available exclusively for members of Taco Bell's rewards program. This collaboration should drive more younger audiences to Taco Bell and hopefully drive more people to Omar Apollo's music. It's part of Taco Bell's broader "Feed The Beat" program to connect with music and culture, where the brand partners with up and coming artists across both the US and the UK. Compared to most other fast food chains, Taco Bell has done a superior job of marketing and highlighting their unique hot sauces, which you can only get at their restaurants. In my younger and more vulnerable years my friends and I ate a lot of Taco Bell. These days I'm less of a Taco Bell enthusiast, but seeing this innovative collab marketing reminds me of the taste of a cheesy gordita crunch. Why is having a point of view so important? It’s Taco Tuesday. 🌮 Suppose you want to write a post about how much you love tacos. You could start off talking about all the reasons you love tacos and include a photo of the tacos you’re having for lunch. BUT if you’re truly passionate about tacos, then you have a point of view. You have strong beliefs about what makes a truly tasty taco. The crispy shell (made out of corn, not flour)… The melty cheese (cheddar AND queso)… The hot sauce (Cholula, not Tobasco)… To create a memorable post, to be known as a true taco aficionado, you have to share a strong opinion. You have to stand in opposition to the same ol’ same ol’. You have to give others a reason to agree or disagree with you. That’s how you stand out. That’s how you get people to think, “wow, they really know something about tacos.” Taco Tuesday is a silly example (maybe not as silly as this taco hat 😆 ). But having a point of view is what sets experts apart from non-experts. If you want to be known as the go-to expert in your field, then get clear on your point of view. Figure out what you stand in opposition to. That’s the key to winning others over. This is what I mean when I talk about Finding Your Big Idea. It’s where I start with all of my clients. And whether you’re writing a book or not, if you want to grow your business, getting clearer on your point of view is always a great idea.
