It's events like this that bring a community together. #TheCrucible Warm Up Edition. As a passionate event conceptualizer, I base the majority of my planning on how I want EVERYONE involved to feel when we finish. Every detail ensures that EVERYONE involved experiences a profound sense of accomplishment, camaraderie, and joy. MY UNIQUE approach stems from a DEEP UNDERSTANDING of JOURNEYS, EMPATHY, and an UNWAVERING COMMITMENT to creating unforgettable moments. It's NOT just about the competition; it's about fostering a community where EVERYONE pushes their limits, celebrates achievements, and leaves with memories that inspire them long after the event ends. #eventconceptualisation

These sessions always feel too short! I meet Joana C. Carvalho and Maria Carlos Oliveira during the unconf session I put together at the Outlier conference last summer. (I titled the session "Pain and gain of dataviz in scientific research". But that is another story). Thing is they were part of the team running Science Visuals Coworking Sessions and of course I joined right away. The networking sessions where we all chat with each other about our work etc are really useful. We all work in the same area, scientific visuals, which sound niche to most. Yet the amount of variation in skills, focus, career paths, and customer pool I find amazingly varied. To have a look at this landscape helps position yourself and become aware of where you stand. The working sessions I was more sceptic about. The one I attended, however, proved to be useful. The result of that was a redesign of the list or "Conditions and Rights" I now attached together with the quotes I sent to clients. I had been struggling with that for a while; I got inspired, motivated, by participating in this coworking session. Looking forward to the next one. Working by oneself can get lonely. Two nights ago I attended my first Suits & Sneakers event. My interpretation of it all was that it was a community of people who want to tap into something deeper within themselves so they can impact their world. Community is EVERYTHING! The keynote, “Relentless Relevance” was delivered by Richard Mulholland, with whom I’d had the pleasure of a healthy disagreement with about his views on empathy (thanks again for emphasising it’s not ok to take things at face value from “thought leaders”) 😁 My 5 key take outs were 1. Don’t get caught fighting yesterday’s war. The battlefield is changing very rapidly. 2. Trends do not equate to relevance. Relevance is the state of being appropriate to the matter at hand. 3. Innovation doesn’t start when you do something new, it starts when you stop doing something old 4. Good service is defined by how well you do YOUR JOB. Great service is defined by how well you do your NOT MY JOB. 5. Flaunt your flaws Thanks Mark Sham and to your team for a great event.

Over the weekend, I attended the Roundtable Community 3.0, and I couldn’t be more glad that I did. One thing that really stood out to me at this event was the beauty of networking horizontally. By communicating with fellow young people, I realized that my dreams are valid, and I just need to get out of my head and out of my own way. Some key lessons from this event: 📌 If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu. This point reminds me, that as young people, we need to be intentional about championing change. Strive to get into those rooms. Enough of living in oblivion. 📌 If you struggle with many interests, ask yourself: What is that one domino that, if you knock it down now, will knock down the many other things? Book recommendation: The One Thing by Gary Keller. 📌 Serve in an environment; give enough of yourself. Serve the place that has served you. If you give people an opportunity to share their knowledge & expertise, they will do so willingly. If they feel like they're part of a community, they will share their knowledge with others willingly. At The Advance, we've created an ecosystem that allows people to exchange ideas, resources, thoughts, & perspectives in a way that they give their information, intellect, & network freely… Because they've gotten it from others in the community. It's that concept of reciprocity that allows people to let their guard down because they know they’re not going to be taken advantage of. Because they know that somebody else before them has given immense value, they can now give value that others can benefit from. The principle of reciprocity is what truly establishes a community that believes in benefiting from the mutual exchange of ideas, resources, context, & content. A community that celebrates wins together. We do that by hosting live events, sharing photos of everyone's experiences at those events, and celebrating the people being introduced to the events. That is what lays the foundation to build that bond. What does it mean? In recent years, I've consciously focused on building more genuine connections (which often means fewer connections) both online and when at events or traveling. This has opened incredible doors and fostered invaluable relationships. It has led me to new countries, speaking in front of new crowds, and embracing new communities of like-minded people from different regions. This recent virtual event image captures the essence of community in action: dynamic, diverse, and digitally connected. I met Paz Pisarski, the Founder of Australia's The Community Collective, by using this focus of making 'fewer but stronger connections' when at CMX Summit last year. Meaningful connections are about depth and quality (not quantity). As I prepare to share these insights at TEDxWinnipeg, I'm reminded of our collective power to inspire, engage, and support each other, no matter the distance.
