Did you know that many job seekers are applying for jobs that don't match their educational background? 💼🎓 It's perfectly acceptable to apply for jobs that don't align with one's degree, as long as you possess the necessary skills and qualifications. However, according to our study, there are other underlying factors that motivate job seekers to apply for positions that are not relevant to their field of study. A notable 27% of respondents indicated a willingness to apply for jobs outside their education field just to secure any job opportunity. Additionally, they mentioned that there aren't enough job openings in their specific area of expertise. This mismatch between industry needs and available talent is concerning, especially considering data from BPS, which shows that there are currently 9.9 million young people in Indonesia who are still unemployed😟. Last Saturday, our Head of Social Research, Vivi Zabkie, had the opportunity to present Populix's research findings on the job mismatch phenomenon in Indonesia at Nakerfest 2024—an annual event organized by Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan Republik Indonesia ✨ During her presentation, Vivi Zabkie highlighted one of the key findings, which revealed that about 46% of companies struggle to find employees who truly meet their requirements. This mismatch between industry needs and available talent is concerning, considering data from Badan Pusat Statistik, which shows that there are currently 9.9 million young people in Indonesia who are still unemployed. The event also marked the release of our whitepaper titled ‘Bridging the Gap: Understanding Job Mismatch in Today’s Workforce,’ a collaboration between Populix and KitaLulus, with support from Pasar Kerja. Our VP of Growth, Bryan The, formally handed a copy of the report to Anwar Sanusi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia.
