Calling disabled people 'special' or labeling their needs as 'special' is not a compliment—it’s a euphemism for exclusion. It masks the reality that society is unwilling to adapt, choosing instead to single out and segregate. Let’s call it what it is: a failure to create an inclusive world. #DisabilityInclusion #AXSChat #Equity #a11y #WeAreBillionStrong #SDGs #Accessibility #Ableism #SpecialNeeds

For the past couple of years, I’ve come to the realization that the term “special”, when referring to #peoplewithdisabilities, is actually a presumably well-intentioned pivot to say “let somebody else handle supporting or caring for that person.” This is particularly true in #healthcare. #Specialneeds aren’t special. They are needs. Full stop. We all have them. #inclusion #disabilityrights #disabiltyjustice #wholepersonhealth #autism #developmentaldisabilities #intellectualdisabilities #downsyndrome #cerebralpalsy #healthequity #disabilityinclusion

Individuals who are blind or have low vision often face social isolation. However, research highlights that peer support groups can reduce loneliness, boost independence, and create lasting connections. The latest study from The Older Individuals who are Blind - Technical Assistance Center (OIB-TAC) explores two successful statewide programs that are building stronger communities for those with vision loss.
