The #HyBex project to design and pilot a hydrogen trading exchange for Belgium was completed during an event at the Port House in Antwerp yesterday. The conclusions? - HyBex is a vital link to hydrogen import projects and important as a market-making mechanism - Commodity and certificate products will be needed to facilitate trading of clean hydrogen - The hydrogen network will require flexibility, accurate digital tools, and more granularity to ensure security of supply - A successful pilot trading hub was set up with exchange, auctioning and balancing features HyBex was a project supported by the Belgian Energy Transition Fund and partners Fluxys, HINICIO and Port of Antwerp-Bruges with the aim to enable a future hydrogen exchange in Belgium, supporting liquid markets for molecules and certificates in a balanced network. #PortOfTheFuture #Hydrogen

Balancing of the nascent hydrogen network will be challenging. The findings that will be shared in this webinar are relevant for - network operators connecting off takers - hydrogen portfolio players having access to flexibility - exporting countries considering infrastructure developments. Our view is that solid oxide electrolytic cell #electrolyzers (SOECs) will only make a significant dent in the market after 2030. But a recent announcement from Estonia highlights the stage the hydrogen industry is in – in which a disruptive technology can have quite the impact and change things overnight. That’s not to say that Elcogen has changed things overnight, but it definitely brought an impressive product closer to the market which underscores the potential for SOECs. The Estonian #hydrogen company has unveiled plans for a 350 MW factory in Tallinn to manufacture solid-oxide electrolyzers and fuel cells. This facility, slated to commence operations by mid-2025, is the first big take-off for Elcogen’s production capacity, previously limited to 10 MW annually across Estonia and Finland. Most notably, the company claims its electrolyzers can produce 1kg of hydrogen with a mere 33 kWh of electricity, outperforming competitors like SunFire, Bloom Energy, and Topsoe which are some of the big SOEC names out there. https://lnkd.in/eABj3zCf
