118 years ago - in June 1906 – Congress signed the Antiquities Act into law! Since then, 18 Presidents (9 Republicans and 9 Democrats) have used its power to create National Monuments. National monuments protect our country's historic landmarks or objects of scientific and cultural interest for generations to come. They also boost local economies and help support diverse communities. Check out Pitkin County Commissioner, Greg Poschman, talk about the impact national monuments, especially Camp Hale-Continental Divide, have had on Colorado and learn more about the state-specific impacts of national monuments at https://lnkd.in/gmesntyv

Crisp early autumn day, and the view from the public entrance to Parliament House is bathed in light. Sharp shadows lead the eye from the red earth to that wondrous liminal space of light between the earth and the sky. The War Memorial, in the distance, rests at the foot of Mt Ainsley, and the distant traffic of a Canberra starting the business day can be heard. Each of us has the ability to see the moment we are in. The beauty of it, the realty of it, and the impermanence of it. In this space, wherever you are, with a breath, you can connect to who you want to be, and the difference you want to make in the world. If you want to let other petty tyrants goad you into your worst… or if your connection to values will help you choose the Insightful Path. #InsightfulPath; #InnovativeLearningDesign; #EngagingFacilitation; #InsightfulProfessionalCoaching

Consultant & Speaker, Lean Quality Systems, Design Control, Process Validation, and Lean Manufacturing at Atzari
Oh, goody. The Pubs are begging for this: America is a continent, as evidenced by historical maps such as the Waldseemüller map, predating the establishment of the United States. The term “America” refers to the entire landmass, encompassing 37 nations. The United States was named in the Declaration of Independence as “the united States of America,” (lower case “u”) emphasizing its location within the continent. Even in the Constitution, the name “the United States” underscores its connection to America. Referring to the United States alone as “America” is inaccurate, as it overlooks the diverse nations and peoples, such as Hawaiians, who are Pacific Islanders. The U.S. Constitution states the correct name of the country in its text: Section 1: Congress All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

A reflection for Principals and Chairs of Boards and Councils. The Council of Trent opened on December 13, 1545. Pope Paul III had asked Ignatius for three Jesuits to serve as theologians to the three papal legates presiding over the council; in response to this request, Ignatius appointed Diego Laínez5, Alfonso Salmerón, and Pierre Favre6. Before they left Rome in early 1546, Ignatius wrote an instruction for their benefit and in it he offers his advice on how to deal with others at the council. Be slow to speak. Be considerate and kind, especially when it comes to deciding on matters under discussion, or about to be discussed in the council. Be slow to speak, and only after having first listened quietly, so that you may understand the meaning, leanings, and wishes of those who do speak. Thus you will better know when to speak and when to be silent. When these or other matters are under discussion, I should consider the reasons on both sides without showing any attachment to my own opinion, and try to avoid bringing dissatisfaction to anyone. I should not cite anyone as supporting my opinion, especially if they are persons of importance, unless this has been thoroughly arranged beforehand. And I would deal with everyone on an equal basis, never taking sides with anyone. If the matters being discussed are of such a nature that you cannot or ought not to be silent, then give your opinion with the greatest possible humility and sincerity, and always end with the words ‘salvo meliori iudicio’—with due respect for a better opinion. The Jesuits have been around for 490 years. Longer than many empires and corporations.............so wise words!
