How to become a project manager? Start by working in a project environment! Any role will do. Then gradually work your way to become a project manager. I started as an engineer in a project. Applying my technical skills into that project. But I worked beyond my role. I also contributed to project management scope such as contracting management and stakeholder management. The company seemed to see my potential in project management. I was then assigned to become a project construction engineer. Later I took a couple of other roles until becoming a project manager. In conclusion: Start your journey by working in a project environment. Then work your way to become a project manager. Disclaimer: There are many roads to become a project manager. Different person may have different path. I explained what works for me. #ImpactSharing

As project managers, we are the driving force behind the successful completion of construction projects. Our role goes beyond just overseeing timelines; it’s about anticipating challenges, adapting to changes, and ensuring every team member is aligned with the project goals. One key strategy I’ve found effective is breaking down the project into manageable milestones. This does not only make the timeline more digestible but also provides opportunities to reassess and recalibrate as needed. Regular communication with stakeholders and team members is another critical element, as keeping everyone informed prevents misalignment and delays. Ultimately, the success of a Project Manager is measured not just by meeting deadlines but by delivering a quality project that satisfies all stakeholders. In the early stages of my career as a project manager, resource management was definitely one of the more challenging aspects. I remember facing a situation where a project was delayed because we didn't have the necessary resources at the right time. We underestimated the lead time required to procure specific materials, and this caused a chain reaction that affected the entire project schedule. One key lesson I learned from that experience was the importance of thorough resource planning during the initial stages of a project. It’s not just about identifying the resources needed but also understanding the timelines for acquiring them, the availability of skilled personnel, and potential bottlenecks. This experience also taught me the value of having contingency plans. Over time, I started building in buffers for resource availability and ensuring that we had alternative suppliers or additional resources that could be mobilized quickly if needed. This proactive approach has helped in mitigating risks and keeping projects on track. Failing to meet deadlines due to resource constraints is something that can happen, but how you manage the situation and learn from it is what ultimately strengthens your skills as a project manage. #Whats your experience when it comes to resource management #PROJECTMANAGERS
