It was an absolute pleasure to sit down with Dr. Bridget Burns and Doug Lederman to discuss all things #leadership and #highered on the #weeklywisdom. As I shared on the call, the leaders, mentors, and advisors who've had the greatest impact on me are those who have focused their attention on bettering the lives of those around them. In higher ed, we know there are many problems to be solved, but as leaders, solving those is secondary. Instead, good leadership is about motivating, inspiring, and empowering the people in your organization to do the great work they already want to do.

Thank you again, Charley Daly, for reaching out and giving me the opportunity to share my story—as a kid growing up as not the best academic student and my journey of growth at Diablo Valley College. I had such a great time chatting with you! Honestly, you’re really good at this podcast stuff! During our conversation, we broke down the core concept of Project EGDI—how it came to be and why it’s so important to me to continue supporting Diamante Scholar students. I truly believe that talent shouldn’t be judged by grades in grade school, high school, or even college. In the real working world, no one cares about those things. What we care about is: Are you a problem solver? Can we trust you? How well do you manage relationships? Are you eager to learn? At Project EGDI, it’s all about doing good for our community and helping those who are often overlooked. Funny enough, even though my 9-to-5 job in data focuses so much on quantifying everything, EGDI doesn’t care about what the ROI is on donating resources or whether others might see a donation as risky. I believe we should take more risks when it comes to doing what’s right and supporting people in our community. Hopefully, our conversation inspires you!
