"I am on annual leave and emails will not be actioned" I have 3 month left in service and 2.5 weeks until my last day in service. These 10 nights in Greece will be a great way to start the terminal leave and the next chapter. I pressed the magic buttons back in Jan this year and time has disappeared. In that time I have managed to complete courses, attend job fairs, meet some great people that have helped me along the way (too many to mention) and most importantly secured a job for the New Year! Some of the job fairs that will hold in Canada in 2024. Some are virtual while others are physical. I would advise visitors in Canada in any of the locations where these job fairs will hold to attend with their CVs, it might be their lucky days and for those outside Canada, also submit for the virtual ones, it could work for you . Unemployed Notes #2 Last Saturday while every unemployed IT person was having fun in Vilnius, due to some scheduling issues had to be content with the job fair in Klaipeda. On the fun side of things, I did visit one in Kaunas last month, so a comparison is in order. ▪ Klaipeda did have a much better staffing situation in the booths. Small booths were run by at least 2 people, whereas the bigger ones had 3-4; ▪ Klaipeda staff was more proactive. Got approached first in most of the booths I stopped at; ▪ Kaunas had more variety in industries represented; ▪ Both were primarily focused on low-level employees but seems like Klaipeda had more offers for more educated/experienced ones; ▪ Both would have been great for engineers; ▪ Kaunas was more busy, crowded, and in turn, loud. I believe it was caused by the space allocated. This made navigating and having conversations a bit difficult. In general, I would give the win to Klaipeda, but... is there any point to job fairs in general? What's your experience? My experience so far. Most of the information is available online. The conversations are a bit awkward as you are not 100% sure what positions you can apply for, and the employer has zero info on you. The effectiveness is very low due to the nature of the format. At best you will have a surface-level conversation, leave your resume, and exchange contact info. Not sure if I am approaching the job fair format in the wrong way, or if the format is outdated, but I don't think I am going to go out of my way to visit more of them.

Many job hunters stick to conventional applications or what I call generic applications. If you want to stand out in your job search you should consider leaving the paths that everyone takes. I suggest going to job fairs. It is the end of the year and new job fairs are coming in january. Make sure to check out what is close to you or even worth traveling for. It is a great way to connect to potential employers. Make sure to take it.

Job Fair is now one of very rare seen right now in Bangladesh. Most companies are organizing job fairs to Reputed Private Universities. My Question is 👇 Why Not in National University? Why NU students can't participate in a Job fare. Why is the university silent in this matter? Why don't they take any action for it ? There are bright students who studied here because of this unbalanced economy or financial condition. They have many abilities as an equal as a private university student. I think students should shout out for this. #nustudent #nationaluniversity

So much discourse on AfroTech2023 and whether it was worth it or not. I’ve actually never been, ima start off with that first. But also, I think the concern people are having with AFROTECH is that they didn’t feel the value was there but it’s because they didn’t know what value to look for. Going to a conference with the sole purpose of getting a new job is unwise. Conferences are NOT job fairs. Job fairs are a part of conferences, sometimes, but they aren’t just job fairs. The job fair isn’t even the top priority for the event. It’s to network, to learn, to make connections, and then there is the job fair part too, which is great. But, now this is the piece ima lose y’all, going to a conference in hopes to land a job but you’re not qualified for the job, is crazy. Ludicrous, even. Step 1: Be qualified It doesn’t matter if you’re applying on the careers site, on LinkedIn, spending $800 for a conference, using Easy Apply, spending $1,000 on a resume writer. You need to start with being qualified Then, once you’ve mastered step 1, you can do all the add ons.

How to get most out of a Job Fair? But wait, why should you attend one? Job fairs are a easy way to expand your network, to make yourself more shown to the the companies that you aiming for. Walking mindlessly to a job fair won't be of much use if you want to maximize the usage of your time. Instead try these : 1. Research the participating companies that you like to join and that are aligned with your goals 2. Ask relevant questions - Engage with recruiters on company culture and what they look for in a candidate 3. Have physical copies of your best resume - Even customize based on your research 4. Collect their LinkedIn contact and try to connect with them on the spot 5. Finally, do not forget to follow up with them. They will remember you better.
