Bricks 🧱 from invasive seaweed? There is no waste. You might have seen it on beaches, especially in N-America and the Caribean. Sargassum seaweed. It's not pleasant if you want to swim through it. ➡️ However a local entrepreneur is seeing the opportunity. ➡️ Turning "the sargassum" into Sargablocks . ➡️ Construction materials from this brown algae which normally cost the tourism industry a fortune in cleaning costs. Inspired🤩?🧱 #circulareconomy #waste Credit: BusinessInsiderSSA

They should better turn it into organic fertilizer 🤩 !!! … or sell it to the Japanese, who will make amazing wallpaper out of it. Even better if you invite them to set up a factory that makes that wallpaper in your country and create jobs and a sustainable economy

Once you understand the problem, the solution becomes obvious. Here the problem wasn't the seaweed itself. The problem was, that no one had a financial incentive to collect it 😉

A lot of clay. The bricks do not seem to be fired, but rather dried. If firing is done, it is very likely that the organic matter, when burned, will create many pores and lower the strength grade. On the other hand, mineral substances released from organic matter during firing can potentially be useful for gaining strength

Could be an idea for the Alte Donau in Vienna.

I'm sure they considered this, or at least I hope they have, but I wonder how they eliminate the entrained salt in the seaweed? If not, wouldn't that eventually contribute to the breakdown of the brick?
