The US is expected to double its utility-scale energy storage capacity in 2024. One question that is often asked by people is what you will do with those batteries when they get to the end of life. Our team POSH (YC W22) was in Seattle yesterday, helping a utility company look at ways to decommission a 10-year-old battery energy storage project. There are hundreds of these decade-old storage projects in the US right now. We need to build robotic machines to do the decommissioning, testing, and recycling at scale! 🤖🦾 🔋
