While Administrative Professionals Day might be an unofficial national holiday, we believe it’s imperative to honor and recognize the dedicated – and often unsung – heroes of many organizations. According to Stephen Covey, the author of "7 Habits of Highly Effective People," a staggering 65% of Americans didn’t receive any recognition in the last year of their employment. To combat this number, we compiled nine approachable yet impactful ways to celebrate the administrative professionals at your organization. 👇 https://bit.ly/3U9akqo #AdminstrativeProfessionalDay #AdminstrativeProfessionals

What is the mission of the Drivers Cooperative Colorado? The purpose of TDC-CO is to address the mistreatment and unfair conditions that rideshare drivers face and to give them the opportunity to thrive. As a cooperative, we are committed to higher wages and ownership for our members. Over the past 15 months we have spent organizing workers, we have heard stories of unjust deactivations, unfair pay, discrimination, and injustice. We are here to make a concrete change. But our mission does not stop here. Our priority is the well-being of our community, and we are determined to meet the transportation needs of marginalized groups throughout the state. Every day, Colorado residents and newcomers (refugees, veterans, seniors, and more) struggle to move freely around the state. Together, we can make a positive impact and create a more equitable and inclusive transportation system for all. Let's make a difference! Like and share this message and show your support for our cause! #cooperative #drivers #ridesharing #workers #community #wages #ownership #like #share #justice #solidarity #cooperation #linkedin

Rustin, Randolph, King, and Labor My wife and I recently watched Rustin, a biopic about the late civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. The movie was produced, in part, by Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Media. It is well worth the two-hour investment, despite its flaws, especially for those of us who spend our time thinking about workers and worker power. Colman Domingo’s portrayal of the title character should be enough on its own to make the movie required viewing, but it was the reminder of the labor movement’s role in the 1963 March on Washington --- in particular, the roles of A. Phillip Randolph and Cleve Robinson --- that jumped off the screen at me. These two labor leaders are portrayed in the movie and a third, International Union, UAW President Walter Reuther, is referenced several times, but never shown. The AFL-CIO remained neutral on the March, and so there was no reason to include the federation in the script. . . . *** Read my full post on The Burnes Center for Social Change's Power At Work Blog: https://lnkd.in/d4EVgeS3 *** Remember to subscribe to the blog when you visit (at the bottom of the front page or use the pop up) and follow the Power At Work Blog page right here on LinkedIn! #MLK #MLKWeekend #activism #union #civilrights #civilrightsmovement

I had the pleasure of attending this panel discussion on the importance of social workers' voices in policy and political action. The discussion helped me recognize and appreciate the diversity within our profession and our potential to make an impact. It was inspiring to see MSWs who hold political office and hear their insights on the importance of having a voice in decision-making and finding a balance between competing values in the legislature. Senator Meyer made a great point about social workers. There are no barriers to leadership roles for social workers. In fact, we are better prepared for this type of work than any other profession. We are trained in three things needed to succeed in politics -- 1) individual psychology, 2) group dynamics, and 3) systems theory. A good government should look like the people it serves. Yet, nothing can be done alone, and we understand that to affect real change, we must advocate for systems change. The most important lesson I learned was this: Social work is a political profession. I thank North Carolina Central University and the speakers for encouraging my education and empowerment in this profession.
So excited for this event at North Carolina Central University sponsored by the Social Work Graduate Student Association. In line with the theme of 2024 Social Work Month "Empowering Social Workers" the GSA has put together a panel of NC elected officials, along with a law professor who also has his MSW who is running for office and the executive director of the North Carolina chapter of the NASW to discuss the importance of Social Workers as Policy Leaders.

If we’re going to do anything to improve the image and attractiveness of working in the service industry, we can’t afford to ignore the societal breakdown that has normalised the abuse of workers. It’s on all of us to call it out when we see it and it starts with how we raise our kids. Time to move the engagement discussion on perhaps to incorporate civility.

An important reminder from Constangy partner Jacqueline Johnson: there are only five days until the big day! 🗓️ No, not Valentine’s Day. February 14, 2024, is the deadline under California AB 1076 for employers with employees in California who are subject to noncompetition provisions to provide “individualized” written notice that the noncompetition clause or agreement is void. Failure to provide notice is subject to a penalty of $2500 per violation - AB 1076 is not something to be ignored. If you need help figuring out whether notice is required with your California employees or want assistance in drafting the notice, we are here to help you. #CaliforniaAB1076 #DeadlineReminder #NoncompeteClause

🌟 Less than 3% of Offenders Reoffend: The Power of the ALTO Alliance 🌟 We're excited to share the remarkable results of a recent study conducted by ALTO! Less than 3% of offenders who go through the ALTO process re-offend at any ALTO Alliance member store. This success is driven by our approach—offenders not only see the consequences of their actions but also choose to avoid ALTO stores altogether. With ALTO now present in 28 states across the US, our commitment to creating safer communities is more robust than ever. Together, we are making a significant difference, one store at a time. #ALTOAlliance #RetailSafety #CommunityProtection #InnovationInSafety #SaferCommunities Karl Langhorst, CPP, CFI, LPC Jorge Nazer Rhett Asher Oscar Arango, LPC Michael Lamb, LPC Michael Hourigan Stephen Longo Gary Smith, LPC Kimberly Sanders
