September 9 - 13 is National Disability Voting Rights Week. People with disabilities face pervasive and persistent barriers to casting our ballots. This results in voting in lower proportions to our non-disabled peers across all age groups. National Disability Voting Rights Week highlights our legal rights to the ballot, educating voters, families and elections officials on these rights to help reduce these barriers. #NationalDisabilityVotingRightsWeek #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights #TheFutureIsAccessible

It's Disability Voting Rights Week! This nonpartisan movement led by the American Association of People with Disabilities and REV UP reminds us that every vote matters. Did you know? • In 2022, one in seven voters with disabilities faced voting difficulties, up from one in nine in 2020. • One in five voters with a disability needed assistance or had difficulty voting in 2022 – three times the rate of voters without disabilities. • Voters with vision and cognitive disabilities experienced the most challenges. (Source: “Disability and Voting Accessibility in the 2022 Elections,” a July 2023 study by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission through Rutgers University.) Make your voice heard in every election!

In addition to #DSPAppreciationWeek, today is also Disability Voting Rights Week! Disabled voters are a part of every community. Yet systemic barriers prevent many people with disabilities from accessing their right to vote. We'd like to empower everyone, especially those with IDD, to know and understand their rights as voters! Here's a great informational deck as a resource for disabled individuals to gain insight into how, where, and when to vote from The Arc of Illinois! #DisabilityVotingRightsWeek #Disability #Voting #DisabilityRights
