The FreeTwinEV project, funded by European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, focuses on enhancing Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave research capacities in advanced battery management systems through Digital Twinning. A digital twin is a virtual model that accurately reflects a physical object. For batteries, this means improvements in lifespan, efficiency, and overall performance which are critical for both mobile and stationary applications. Dr. Gabriel Gálik the project coordintor from Faculty of Electrical Engineering STU, stated, “The FreeTwinEV project is not just about advancing battery technology but is also a strategic move to amplify Slovakia’s contribution to the European Green Deal. By extending battery life by just 20%, we could cut down CO2 emissions by up to 40 million tons annually. This is a significant stride towards sustainability.” Peter Cuninka, Director of Centre of European Projects, Cooperation with Practice, Innovations and Technology Transfer at STU stated: „The project creates a robust partnership among prestigious institutions, including the University of Twente (NL), Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH (LCM) (AT), and ADDSEN, s.r.o. Another exciting week coming up for TNO in APAC! I'm particularly proud to be hosting our CEO Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi again for a visit to South Korea and Japan. Our strategic collaborations with organisations from these two countries empower TNO to enhance and future-proof our knowledge base, and thereby boosting the competitiveness of our Dutch partners in Smart & Efficient and Sustainable Mobility. We can accelerate innovation both at home and in Japan and South Korea and develop new insights through close collaboration with top tier organisations such as OEM’s, government agencies, research institutes and academics. During our visit, we will showcase TNO's R&D initiatives while exploring areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration. Our discussions will centre around technologies such as Automated Driving, AI, Hydrogen Combustion (H2-ICE), Fuel Cell Technology, Battery Management, Digital Infrastructure, Predictive Digital Twins, Semicon and more. Additionally, we'll delve into effective policy-making methodologies and strategic urban planning approaches. Of particular interest will be TNO's methodologies ‘StreetWise’ for accelerating Automated Driving with advanced scenario-based safety validation, and ‘Urban Strategy’ for developing predictive Digital Twins to inform strategic urban planning and decision-making processes. Our shared objectives revolve around achieving Zero calamities, Zero emissions, and Zero loss. I'm eagerly anticipating inspiring weeks ahead. Further on we would like to showcase our semicon technology. As systems become pricier, there's a greater demand for improved productivity, longer lifespan, and reliability. To meet this, TNO develops technology to measure ever smaller particles and advancing thermal control concepts. A big thanks to everyone involved! 🤩 Let's start the year with good news->🆕sister Project: TwinVectorEU 🎯 TwinVectorEU is an EU-funded project whose aim is to create a centre of excellence at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic, focusing on next-generation #battery #sustainable design, #energy business models and sustainability assessments, with the support of the upgraded research and administration unit (RAU). 👉 The #TBU aims to increase #scientific expertise and capacity in techno-economic simulation tools, cost-benefit analysis methods and @business model #innovation for assessing advanced battery #technology. 📢 The coordinator of the project is actually #TBU which cooperates within the project with four excellent institutions, the Research Center of Finland (VTT), the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), University of Karlsruhe (KIT), and the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) GmbH from Germany as well. Today at Master School Connect at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, we had the privilege of hosting a thought-provoking panel discussion with Diego Pavia, CEO of EIT InnoEnergy, and Elena Bou, Innovation Director at EIT InnoEnergy. 🎤✨ Students had the incredible opportunity to ask them insightful questions and get to know about subjects like: 👉 InnoEnergy's criteria for evaluating potential investment opportunities. 👉 Future technological advancements and market disruptions in the energy sector. 👉 Promising areas for innovation and investment in the energy industry. 👉 Skills in demand for professionals entering the energy sector. 👉 Essential characteristics for an idea to be deemed truly innovative in the energy industry.

ACC is a project with strong European roots, and this translates into the 2023 #CorporateSocialResponsibility report that we released recently. Discover now the fourth pillar of our approach: "Contributing to the European industrial and academic battery ecosystem". We strongly believe that the production of batteries and its value-chain can be relocated in Europe. That’s the reason why we aim at exploiting already existing European industrial sites, and build our #Gigafactories on combustion engine sites that are due to close. At the meantime, growing partnerships with suppliers capable of designing and producing the components and equipment needed to manufacture and recycle batteries accelerates the relocation of the whole supply chain on the continent. Encouraging European sovereignty also involves strengthening the knowledge through research, and sharing progress with the scientific community. We are contributing to the development of training programmes, with the aim of promoting employability and attracting talented people in the areas where we operate. Wise move towards greater #sustainability: #NTUsg's Prof Madhavi Srinivasan was recently appointed as a WISE – Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability guest professor at the Chalmers University of Technology. She will be working alongside esteemed scientists at Chalmers’ Department of Industrial and Materials Science, as well as the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, led by Prof Leif Asp and Dan Zenkert, to enhance and accelerate the development of cutting-edge structural batteries. Bringing her extensive expertise in battery technology and circular economy to the table, Prof Srinivasan's collaboration with Chalmers and KTH under the WISE programme offers an opportunity for multi-disciplinary research in the energy storage sector. This partnership aligns well with her ongoing research efforts as the Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute @ NTU, which looks to develop novel energy storage solutions, and also the Co-Director of the Singapore-CEA Alliance for Research in Circular Economy (SCARCE), which seeks to find greener ways of recycling and upcycling battery waste. WISE is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and is dedicated to advancing material science for sustainability, with an emphasis on developing eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes.
