Today is World Recycling Day. We as humans consume way, way too much, and the worse part is how we discard the items, and what happens to it all. As per the UN Sustainable Development Group: ♻ only 9% of all the plastic waste generated globally is recycled 🌱 79% ends up in landfills or in nature 🔥 12% is incinerated Even if amazing organizations like the The Ocean Cleanup keep cleaning our oceans, with our consumption, and with the global #populationgrowth, we are not doing any progress, and it will probably just get worse with time. I follow The Ocean Cleanup on Instagram and see their awesome work... just to have those rivers they clean accumulate #plasticpollution and other junk all over again in a matter of months, sometimes weeks. It's just endless!! I once shared this post (in 2019), now, the population is 8+ billion!...: "I'm one person in 7.7 Billion [now, 8+Billion!] people in the world. I am not be able to make a huge difference on my own. But every bag, straw, or single-use plastic I choose NOT to use, won't end in landfills, the oceans, or in the stomach of a whale, because of me." When Neo co-founder Nick met A Good Thing’s Anna at a ‘People Planet Pint’ meeting in Shropshire, he knew immediately the platform would be a great way to share a no-longer-needed office printer. Nick commented: “The whole process was super easy! It’s such a great initiative, and we’re delighted to have found a great new home for our printer. We recommend other businesses give it a go!” While in the process of setting up as a new charity, the 4 All Foundation spotted A Good Thing on Instagram. They reached out to ask about the platform and immediately signed up! George, the Foundation Lead, told us a bit more about the charity: “We’re a huge operation! We grew out of the Marches Academy Trust, as we were offering programmes to local people and wanted to go further. We set up as a charity and now have two hubs." 🖨 🌟 The donation has brought printing power to the local community! During the magical season of Advent, when our hearts are moved to contemplation and charity, the connection between DICOTA and bhz Stuttgart e.V. is intensified. This deaconal institution offers people with various impairments a place where a normal, everyday life is possible, with shared meals, inspiring events, and creative workshops. In the facility's workshops, dedicated people with limitations have long played a key role in ensuring that our bags are carefully repackaged. But people also support us in special projects by labelling our bags with individual labels from our partners. Recently, bhz Stuttgart e.V. faced a challenge when one of its industrial sewing machines broke down. A repair was no longer possible and the impending shutdown would have disrupted production processes. We didn't hesitate for a moment, and were determined to support bhz Stuttgart e.V. Our donation of a new industrial sewing machine was not only a practical solution to maintain production processes, but also a deep expression of our appreciation for the work we do together and our deep commitment to social responsibility. The partnership between DICOTA and bhz Stuttgart e.V. is more than just a business connection. It is a living example of how companies can contribute to shaping an inclusive society. And even if Advent reminds us of the fact that we should love our neighbour, a willingness to help is of central importance to us all year round.
