For the first time ever, Amazon presented alongside broadcast networks during the Upfronts. The event, created in partnership with SALT PRODUCTIONS, brought together Amazon’s sales teams and customers with the goal of positioning Amazon Ads as a scaled video player. Attendees were greeted at Pier 36 with an outdoor Amazon Cinema marquee, an 80' concession stand, and content activations before being ushered into the Amazon theater for a fast-paced 70-minute presentation featuring surprise celebrity moments. To whomever listens at Netflix & Amazon. Sell your titles. Please sell your titles. People will not subscribe indefinitely to rewatch Stranger Things and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. There are however, people like me. People that want to own. People waiting to buy. You can still skim ad revenue off your casual watchers. Why not offer both? Warner Bros. Discovery sells Hacks, The Gilded Age, Succession… I own them all. I want to own Stranger Things. I want to own The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I want to own The Map Of Tiny Perfect Things (2021). I want to own Totally Killer (2023). I want to own The Dirt (2019) and Murder Mystery (2019)- just the first one. Why not use EC and alternate/extended cuts exclusive to streaming as the defining line. (make no mistake, people are selling without your approval… do an internet search, how much are you leaving on the table? If you negotiated rights poorly, renegotiate)

Is media & entertainment still a bellwether for digital wallets? Secular TV's decline was much discussed at Cannes Lions this spring. Mega write downs at Warner & Paramount ~$9bn & ~$6bn respectively made it all too plain in H1 24's print. If Disney, Netflix & Amazon's widely telegraphed intention to lead in the streaming stakes translates into reality, they could be in pole position across key parts of the emergent digital wallet economy. Especially as consumers tire of multiple logins and subscription bundles. As Disney's CFO recently put it, "then there'll be some smaller competitors out there who'll have to decide how to run their businesses" All as AI signals loom large across media & entertainment.
