The conversation about linear as a content discovery mechanism has entered the chat. FAST is overrated. I don't say this because FAST is stupid. FAST is great. But when 98% of my news and all 3,546 panels I've attended this year are about FAST, including the one I'm hosting on Wednesday (woot woot), of course it's going to be overrated. Even pizza, at that rate, would be overrated. And we all know pizza is not overrated. The sleeper in all of this exciting FAST talk is linear as a content discovery tool, surfacing programming we never knew we wanted. Also linear as an engagement tool and a "analysis paralysis" killer. The FASTer (pun intended) users start watching something. The faster y'all are making money. Everyone interested in the #oil and #gas debate on #windfalltax #EPL should listen to this podcast. It’s wild. So there’s no basis whatsoever in international taxation to achieve what he says their policy aspires to do. The so-called #WindfallTax (which taxes Upstream UK profits) wouldn’t tax non-UK profits, so that won’t do it. Extending the tentacles of the UK tax system to tax overseas profits (whether remitted as dividend to the UK or not) would risk other tax authorities retaliating against the UK via their tax systems. There is either a really complex plan in the background to raid the non-UK profits of BP, Shell and others who aren’t Harbour in a way which hasn’t been articulated, or this whole area is something that Sarwar (and possibly Reeves) just doesn’t understand. We need to now be asking •exactly how• is it planned that the new policy will let Harbour (and others who aren’t Shell and BP) escape and Shell and BP won’t? Exactly how?
