This is a 6 acre site at kanakpura taluk about 80 Kms from Bangalore. The site is contoured such that the rainwater run-off flows into 3 inter-connected ponds . A solar powered pump is used to circulate water when required . There are also 19 smaller recharge wells each of 3 feet diameter and 15 feet deep . The idea is to keep the shallow aquifer recharged and saturated . The grand plan is to use the ponds and wells for irrigation and not to extract water from the tube well in which the yield has plummeted over the last few months . All the rooftop rainwater (from staff quarters) is channeled into a beautiful dry masonry recharge cum withdrawal well . This well is 60 feet deep. It had potable water at 40 feet till early February and now has completely dried up. With monsoons and Rainwater harvesting, the hope is that water comes back into this well. This farm will be converted into a fully functional off the grid farm by July this year with grey water treatment, solar power , bio gas and azolla cultivation planned . #decentralization is a good way for #decarbonization . Centre for Energy, Environment & People (CEEP) hosted a webinar as part of its #VidyutSamwad series on 27 May'24, to discuss the systemic issues in electricity distribution affecting agricultural consumers in the Chandan Subdivision of Jaisalmer. The online event featured a panel discussion moderated by Simran Grover (Founder, CEEP) and included local farmers and organisations, representatives from Discoms, regulatory commissions, and power sector experts. The webinar had 72 participants from Rajasthan and beyond, and the following key points were highlighted in the discussion: 1. Only four hours of electricity is supplied to farmers instead of the mandated six hours, and issues such as excessive tripping and irregular/low voltage are common. 2. Key challenges in the area include number of agricultural connections exceeding distribution capacity, inadequate staffing at Discom offices, and the inadequate capacity of the grid substation. 3. There is a lack of complete metering of agricultural connections in the area, and due to geographical conditions, it is challenging to install agricultural meters in open areas. Efforts can be made for complete metering by gaining the confidence of the farmers. 4. There is a pressing need to enhance regulatory accountability in supplying electricity to agricultural consumers, thereby facilitating the establishment of standards for electricity services. 5. The possibility of exploring a regional cooperative business association-based franchise model can also be considered in the area. 6. In addition to strengthening distribution infrastructure and services, farmers should explore options such as solar power, energy-efficient pumps, and suitable capacitors. 7. The rejuvenation of the #Ganga in #Kanpur is a testament to the dedicated efforts and transformative initiatives by the government. Through the #NamamiGange project, the city has experienced a remarkable turnaround, with once-polluted waters now reflecting a clean state. The city produces an estimated 400 million litres per day of municipal sewage and industrial effluent.
