As nuclear detonations in space become now a topic of interest, it is interesting to go back to the origins and see how this concept interested the military during the Cold War. In the years before the OST, with the fear of FOBS or nuclear weapons in space, ASAT systems were evolving paired to their similar ABM systems. Areal denial was seen as one of the main techniques to eliminate nuclear warheads from ICBMS or even satellites (as it was found during the high-altitude nuclear tests). This was thanks to the Christofilos effect, which in theory established the creation of artificial radiation belts around the Earth thanks to high-altitude nuclear explosions. These belts would interfere with nuclear warheads' re-entry vehicles or satellites leaving them unable to perform their missions. And that's why Operation Argus in 1958 was created by the US. To test for the first time if Christofilos was right. Here is a report of 45 min about this operation that was carried out in the South Atlantic and that demonstrated that yes, nuclear weapons detonated at high altitudes can be used to create artificial radiation belts. https://lnkd.in/eTanyDmb

#Russia changed it's nuke procedures. From now on, in case of massive attack by 1) Planes 2) Rockets 3) Drones from a non-nuclear country, but supported or assisted by a nuclear country, the response will be nuclear on both. #Russia is kinda sick with #procedures . I am starting to worry because if there's no money to offer the #procedures will follow. Can't bypass the procedures without a fat cash brick. So there are two possible outcomes: give Russia the #cash or face a nuclear response. Or give up supporting the suicidal idiots, of course (which is equal to giving Russia the cash). The highest possible bets are on the table it's almost ALL-IN for the world. Lord save us.

Reading on the news that Russia install a Nuclear Propulsion ICBM missile base, some info on the technology as it isn't so new. Nuclear-powered thermal rockets are more effective than chemical thermal rockets, primarily because they can use low-molecular-mass propellants such as hydrogen, as thermal rockets, nuclear thermal rockets work almost exactly like chemical rockets: a heat source releases thermal energy into a gaseous propellant inside the body of the engine, and a nozzle at one end acts as a very simple heat engine: it allows the propellant to expand away from the vehicle, carrying momentum with it and converting thermal energy to coherent kinetic energy. The specific impulse (Isp) of the engine is set by the speed of the exhaust stream. That, in turn, varies as the square root of the kinetic energy loaded on each unit mass of propellant. The kinetic energy per molecule of propellant is determined by the temperature of the heat source (whether it be a nuclear reactor or a chemical reaction). At any particular temperature, lightweight propellant molecules carry just as much kinetic energy as heavier propellant molecules and therefore have more kinetic energy per unit mass. This makes low-molecular-mass propellants more effective than high-molecular-mass propellants. First test took place back in 1944 on a modify version of a German V2 WW2 missile, from then DARPA sign several contracts with the main defence contractors as Lockheed, General Dynamics etc to develop the technology as we all have on mind that this type of missiles will actually provide the trips to Mars and to other planets but only in space, the Space vehicle always have to use liquid fuel engines for security reasons on earth's surface! Using a NPR on the earth surface is not the best idea as a mistake will create a nuclear explosion, this is the reason of targeting the space usage only, having an ICBM powered by NPR is even more dangerous than the nuclear heads!
