⚡| Actis acquires Enel Generación Perú and takes over one of Peru's largest diversified generation portfolios. The acquisition will see Actis take over a 2.2GW diversified energy generation platform in Peru, marking the 10th platform investment from Actis' flagship Energy 5 Fund, which represents US$6 billion of investible capital. Actis will gain access to a portfolio of 12 assets with one more under construction, which includes a market-leading renewables footprint comprising wind and solar assets as well as hydro and thermal assets. Actis plans to scale the platform and accelerate its renewables growth to capture market opportunities and drive the energy transition in Peru. The acquisition strengthens Actis’ energy portfolio in Latin America and follows the Actis Energy 5 Fund investments in Serena and Valia Energía in the region. Masdar, owned by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company, and energy company TAQA, is actively expanding its presence in the #renewableenergy sector across Europe. The group recently acquired the Spanish firm Saeta Yield from Brookfield Renewable for $1.4 billion. LS Power has agreed to acquire Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. renewable energy business, which includes 3GW of operating wind and solar assets spread across the US and Canada. This portfolio consists of 44 operating assets, with 2,700MW located in the US and 300MW in Canada. Additionally, the acquisition includes an 8GW development pipeline that features wind, solar, battery energy storage, and renewable natural gas projects. This strategic purchase enhances LS Power's existing renewable energy portfolio, which already includes over 19,000MW of renewable, energy storage, and clean energy projects. The acquisition aligns with LS Power's goal to address rising electricity demand and advance the energy transition. The deal is expected to close between late 2024 and early 2025, pending regulatory approvals. Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) has finalized its acquisition of a 50% stake in Terra-Gen, LLC, one of the largest independent renewable energy producers in the #UnitedStates. The deal, announced on October 1, 2024, marks one of Masdar’s most significant transactions to date, further solidifying its presence in the US renewable energy market. ECP (Energy Capital Partners), a key investor in Terra-Gen, has fully exited its position following the transaction. Igneo Infrastructure Partners retains its 50% stake in Terra-Gen, alongside Masdar. The deal aligns with Masdar’s long-term strategy to build 100GW of global renewable energy capacity by 2030. Terra-Gen, which operates across California and Texas, boasts a portfolio of 3.8GW of wind, solar, and battery storage projects, with plans to develop over 12GW in additional capacity. This acquisition strengthens Masdar’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint in the US, a critical market in its global portfolio. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE’s Minister of Industry and Chairman of Masdar, emphasized the acquisition as a crucial step in advancing the UAE-US Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy (PACE). Premier Energy announced the completion of the acquisition of CEZ Vanzare, as a result of which the regional customer portfolio of the entire Premier Energy group rises to 2.4 million residential and non-residential customers.   The acquisition of CEZ Vanzare from Macquarie Asset Management was announced in December 2023. CEZ Vanzare is a Romanian electricity distributor with a portfolio of 1.4 million customers and was part of the Czech group CEZ before being bought by the Australian infrastructure fund Macquarie along with CEZ' other assets in Romania. The completion of the transaction represents a landmark moment for Premier Energy group’s local and regional development strategy, a step that brings the group closer to its announced major objective of becoming a regional energy platform. Since the end of 2022, Premier Energy has also become a major player in the renewable energy sector through acquisitions. Thus, the group is preparing its transition to renewable energy, the target set for Romania being between 1.4 GW and 1.6 GW in the next three years.   According to Romanian media, the transaction is estimated to some 15 million euros. Established in 2007, Premier Energy operates as a distributor and supplier in the natural gas market in Romania, being the third largest player in this sector after Engie and E.ON. The company is owned by Cyprus-registered energy holding company Premier Energy PLC, indirectly controlled by Czech businessman Jiri Smejc through the investment fund Emma Capital. EDPR LATAM’s sale of a couple of wind projects in Brazil to Statkraft was done at a fair value, according to Rystad Energy's analysis. Statkraft agreed in August 2023 to acquire the two operational onshore wind farms – Jerusalém and Boqueirão – with a capacity of 260 megawatt (MW), located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the northeastern part of Brazil. The deal was closed in early January this year. The deal value reported is $323 million. Using Rystad Energy’s base case price assumption and a discount rate of 7.5%, we value the deal at $303 million, suggesting Statkraft paid a reasonable price for the acquisition. With this acquisition and other project developments, Statkraft’s renewable portfolio capacity in Brazil has surpassed 2.2 GW. Interesting to see Statkraft movements to expanding its renewables portfolio in Brazil, by acquiring wind assets from EDP Brasil and with the announcement to acquire Enerfín with a large portfolio of renewables. After all these deals, the company is set to become one of the most relevant renewable players in Brazil.
