The United States is the world's largest #plasma collector, but its supply is not always guaranteed. In the event of a future health emergency, such as another pandemic, Europe could be left without enough plasma to manufacture plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs). We need to make sure that there is enough plasma in the EU to make PDMPs. Relying on the US is not a reliable path on which to continue. This means making evidence-based policy decisions: ↳ on how to collect more plasma; ↳ and ensure that existing collection models are not put at risk. We need to focus on supporting more plasma donors and building a reliable European plasma collection infrastructure. It is therefore imperative to make practical, enforceable, and evidence-based policy decisions that are grounded in solid evidence and have a proven track record.
