The function of a pressure relief valve is to protect pressure vessels, piping systems, and other equipment from pressures exceeding their design pressure by more than a fixed, predetermined amount. The permissible amount of accumulation is covered by various codes and is a function of the type of equipment and the conditions causing the accumulation. It is not the purpose of a pressure relief valve to control or regulate the pressure in the vessel or system that the valve protects, and it does not take the place of a control or regulating valve. The aim of safety systems in processing plants is to prevent damage to equipment, avoid injury to personnel and to eliminate any risks of compromising the welfare of the community at large and the environment. Proper sizing, selection, manufacture, assembly, test, installation, and maintenance of a pressure relief valve are critical to obtaining maximum protection. #mechanicalengineering #valves #safety #instrumentationandcontrol

HT, it is the beginning of the electrical path in any industry & also it is recognized as the heart of an industry because upon its failure a high probability of production & financial loss can occur. So it is necessary to carry out preventive maintenance at regular intervals of time. Below are the few points whose regular monitoring & with the help of maintenance one can avoid failure of the HT system. 1. While selecting the HT cubicle make sure it must be of exact rating for protection, with help of which one can be free of nuisance tripping in case of under rating & no tripping in case of over rating. 2. Regular carry out of Megger & Hipot test on HT cubical & on cable is must, just to ensure no-shorting of system. 3. Protective relays, as the HT system generally won’t face tripping, these protective relays often stay in the idle mode. Regular trip checking through tests of these relays are must, so in the event of occurrence of fault these relays can trip & avoid fatal accidents. 4. HT system must be equipped with earthing with adequateness & Its IR testing must be done regularly. 5. Safety charts, marking, operation procedure & safety procedure must be specified very well on the equipment. So that one can know what & how to operate the equipment incase of critical situations. 6. CO2 or powder type extinguisher validity must be checked properly. If required, changing/refilling of the same must be done. 7. Boundary fencing must be done, so that no one other than the skilled person can enter inside the HT area. 8. Finally at regular intervals of time safety audits must be carried out by a Third Party Inspector.

Safety is non-negotiable, especially during maintenance. A gas valve secured with a cable lockout during equipment service & repair can keep workers safe. Without these precautions, accidental valve opening is a risk. Where Can You Use Cable Lockouts? - Gas valves - Electrical panels - Conveyor belts - Machinery controls - Hazardous material containers As summer heats up, the need for secure maintenance procedures becomes even more critical. High temperatures can amplify risks, making safe practices indispensable. When we do 5-Year Mechanical Integrity Audits, we perform a full inspection of your piping system. This includes looking at all valves. In some cases, the valve is protected with a clamshell lock like this one. Where possible, we move the lock around to get a better look at the valve stem. I was surprised to find a wasp nest inside this one near a condenser. Upon further investigation, EVERY clamshell lock by the condensers were filled with wasp nests! That would be an unpleasant surprise if these valves needed to be used in an emergency situation! Anyone know how frequent valves need to be visually inspected? How about exercised and lubricated?

⚡🔍 Are Hidden Dangers Jeopardizing Your Electrical Maintenance Routine? At Bowtie Engineering, we're spotlighting a common yet critical oversight in electrical maintenance: using incorrect lubrication on mechanical components. 🔧 Common Mistake: Applying the wrong grease on bearings can slow down breaker operations, exposing workers to risks, especially if their personal protective equipment isn’t up to the task. 💥 Potential Harm: Using mono lithium spray grease might seem effective, but it could actually cause more damage than benefits. 🛠️ Our Advice: Ensure technicians receive proper training and use materials recommended by the equipment manufacturer to prevent mishaps. 🌟 Join us at Bowtie Engineering as we dive deep into your maintenance practices to ensure they are thorough, compliant, and safe. #ElectricalSafety #MaintenanceTips #BowtieEngineering #SafetyFirst #JohnWelch

Holiday Testing, also known as Pinhole Testing or Continuity Testing, is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique used to detect flaws or defects (such as pinholes, cracks, or voids) in protective coatings, particularly on metal surfaces like pipelines, tanks, or vessels. You know how this works? Don't worry, I will explain. 😊 It involves applying an electrical current to the coated surface. The coating acts as an insulator, and if there are any discontinuities (holidays) in the coating, the electrical current will flow through these gaps to the conductive metal underneath. This creates a spark or a beep (depending on the device used), alerting the inspector to the presence of a defect. It helps prevent corrosion by detecting defects or exposed sections of the coating so that those sections can be recoated. Holiday testing is mostly done on coatings on buried or submerged pipelines, internal coatings of storage tanks, offshore structures, and industrial equipment exposed to harsh conditions But why is it called "Holiday"? The term "holiday" originates from the concept that a coating defect is like a "holiday" or break in the protective barrier, leaving the surface exposed to corrosion or other damage. Helpful? Feel free to share with me your thoughts and /or questions. #NDT #corrosion #pipelines #OilandGas #maintenance #holidaytesting #holiday #piping #instrumentation #automation

#Lockout #Tagout (#LOTO) Working on any equipment #lockouttagout isolating all sources of energy is dangerous and could injure or kill you and/or peers. Do not perform maintenance on any equipment that requires LOTO unless you have been trained to do so. Hazardous energy sources that need to be controlled include: Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, Chemical & Thermal. Pressurized air (pneumatic source) is frequently used to power gates, mixer doors, and valves. This requires LOTO just like any other power source that can injure or kill. Electrical sources from 110V to 480V are scattered throughout our mills and offices to power equipment. Depending on the amperage and the human body’s reaction, any one of these sources can kill a person. Remember, safety is our utmost top priority. Energy sources that power our day-to-day are tremendously beneficial but need to be treated with respect and maintained safely without exeption. CalOSHA Training Requirement Satisfied – “Lockout/Blockout.”
